Our Opportunity

Chewy is seeking a Systems Engineer based out of our in Bellevue, WA headquarters. A team of experts in veterinary medicine and technology, with decades of experience and a passion for pet care, is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer professional to join our growing organization in Chewy Healthcare. Our technology stack is built in Java, ReactJS, NodeJS, running on PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Couchbase, ElasticSearch, Kafka and other modern technologies. We containerize and deploy with Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform. As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for infrastructure delivery, reliability, scalability, monitoring, and helping define all of this as immutable infrastructure-as-code. Your work will keep the infrastructure alive for many veterinary clinics.

What You’ll Do

• Help development team with code deployments in all environments
• Brainstorm new ideas and ways to improve development delivery
• Maintain day-to-day management and administration of projects
• Build and test automation tools for infrastructure provisioning
• Participate in On-Call rotation
• Support and maintain critical applications on cloud-native microservices architecture (GCP)
• Document and design various processes; update existing processes
• Monitor metrics and develop ways to improve applications performance
• Build, maintain, and monitor configuration standards
• Provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations
• Follow all best practices and procedures as established by the company
• Manage CI and CD tools with team
• Implement automation, effective monitoring, and infrastructure-as-codebuild, deployment, and configuration management

What You’ll Need

• Practical experience with Docker containerization and clustering (Kubernetes)
• Expertise with AWS, GCP or Azure (GCP is a plus)
• Effective communication skills
• Bachelor or master’s degree in CS, or equivalent practical experience
• Professional experience and a high-level understanding of working with various operating systems and their implications
• Experience maintaining and deploying highly-available, fault-tolerant systems at scale
• A drive towards automating repetitive tasks (e.g. scripting via Bash, Python, NodeJs, etc)
• Version control system experience (e.g. Git)
• Expect minor travel – no more than 10% of the time
• Experience implementing CI/CD (e.g. Jenkins, Artifactory, Sonarcube, Docker, Helm)
• Operational (e.g. HA/Backups) RDBMS and NoSQL experience (e.g. PostgreSQL, Couchbase, BigQuery)

Compensation & Benefits

Our salary range for a job title position is $78,500-$159,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
