The Authentication Team at Fermilab is seeking a System Administrator/Computing Services Specialist I. The Authentication Team manages Active Directory, MIT Kerberos and Federation services and is responsible for authenticating Fermilab users providing SSO, MFA options, and fulfills requirements of the end users. This group works with other teams like network team, desktop engineering and cybersecurity team offering our support and technical assistance.


The System Administrator will support initiatives to improve customers use of our technology to the fullest potential. The individual will provide an on-call rotation end-user support to end users on the services the team are responsible. Duties also include system maintenance, assessment integration, troubleshooting issues.


You Will:


  • Participate in testing on system modifications and release
  • Manage internal PKI
  • Develop IT related documentation
  • Conduct corrective and preventive maintenance
  • Educate customers on new products and computer applications
  • Troubleshoot and reply to trouble tickets on time during call duties. Manage day to day tasks to ensure timely resolution is met
  • Contribute optimally within a diverse workforce and upholds Fermilab’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Analyze complex situations in the Authentication environment to resolve technical problems
  • Work with ITL changes, request on system modifications, releases, scheduled down-time, etc.
  • Manage MFA (YubiKey, RSA) and support new initiatives to expand MFA solution
  • Establish, maintain, and secure Domain Controllers
  • Setup and manage several VMs (vSphere)
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Manages Active Directory users, computers, groups, and permissions, including adds, organizational reassigns and disable
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and products.
  • Ensure that service requests, diagnoses, troubleshooting and technical problems and information technology issues related to the technology platforms are resolved in a timely manner
  • Conduct Software upgrades, Operating System Deployment (Windows and Linux)
  • Manage Federation services
  • Assist, manage and resolve hardware and software issues
  • Provide excellent customer service while using technical, analytical and communication skills to accurately identify client needs and provide effective solutions


We Are Looking For:


  • Excellent follow-through and attention to detail
  • SmartCard, X509 certificates
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Scripting knowledge such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of technology system
  • Proficient with Microsoft OS, Linux OS. MacOS
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or related field
  • Knowledge of MIT Kerberos
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into user-friendly communication.
  • Ability to working and foster a collaborative team environment
