The ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Office within the Office of the CTO has the opportunity and responsibility to expand our impact as a sustainable, equitable and trusted multi-cloud company. We drive this through our 2030 Agenda – 30 goals driven by the ESG Office across the enterprise that we have aggressively set out to achieve. This opportunity is an exciting opportunity to help VMware progress along its sustainability journey and support its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2030.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

This role will play a critical role in supporting VMware’s 2030 Agenda by working with cross-functional teams to help the company achieve its ambitious renewable energy and climate action goals, including our science-based targets.

Additionally, a successful outcome within the first year will be learning and understanding VMware operations, as well as being able to build strong business partnerships through shared Objective & Key Results (OKRs) which support VMware’s climate commitments.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

Projects will evolve over time; however, one can expect a mixture of the following:

  • Track and manage procurement of renewable energy instruments and carbon offsets
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., CSRD, SEC, and CA)
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to gather data and input for the annual CDP disclosure process
  • Provide environmental metrics for various ESG disclosures (e.g., ESG Report & Customer Inquiries)
  • Track and monitor progress of VMware’s science-based targets
  • Conduct the organization’s GHG inventory including data collection, inventory preparation, in-house quality control, and third-party verification in close partnership with Sustainability Manager
  • Procure renewable energy for VMware’s global operations in alignment with the GHG Protocol and RE100 guidance
  • Partner with real estate, data center teams, and hardware group on their sustainability targets and decarbonization plans

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this role is Jessamine Chin, Sr. Director of ESG and Social Innovation. Jessa has been at VMware for more than 11 years, working closely throughout that time with the Chief Sustainability Officer, who leads the ESG Office.

Jessa believes in lifelong learning and that teams work best when they have trust, strong connections and fluid communication. This person would be part of a group focused on Sustainability Operations, ESG Reporting & Social Innovation. While unique colleagues with respective character strengths, the team has shared values around integrity, meaningful impact, and driving change through collective actions. The role will partner very closely with the Sustainability and Net Zero manager.

For US based candidates, the annual pay range (OTE for commissioned roles; Salary for other roles) for this position is: $89,000 - $202,000. The actual offer will be based on the role, location, and individual candidate experience. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position.
