A newly developed and well funded independent nonprofit research institute focused on drug discovery and biomedical innovation is building their portfolio to include new and innovative academic research startups. This is a unique opportunity to get involved early and be part of a founding team that will advise the research institute on key strategic and scientific decisions, as well as providing expert advice and mentoring to academic founders looking to transition their innovations into early stage startups.

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategy, direction and execution of the company’s clinical development plans, clinical trial design, analysis and interpretation of clinical trial data and the reporting of clinical trial results.
• Provide leadership for strategy and execution of NDA/BLA and other regulatory submissions required to move the drug through and out of the clinic
• Provide leadership in all aspects of medical affairs with particular emphasis on patient care standards, clinical operations/variation, clinician engagement and clinical innovation.
• Develop business plans and go-to-market strategies.
• Oversee aspects of clinical development, with a particular focus on phase I-III trials.
• Actively and routinely collaborate with current clients of the research institute and assist them in removing obstacles and providing creative counsel to accelerate their business and/or scientific results.
• Lead interactions with academic thought leaders, investigators, cooperative groups, and other clinical stakeholders

Education/Experience/Skills:

• Real-life experience with formation and growth of a scientific startup company, setting up its governance, raising funds, and strategically managing its valuation and cap table over its growth cycle. Preferred experience with hard science companies in the sectors of advanced early stage biotechnology.
• Have the ability to translate material into written form and organize thoughts into learning modules.
• Excellent organizational skills with particular attention to detail.
• Must have excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Requires a medical degree (MD or DO) with more than 10 years experience starting and building science based businesses in a C-level role.
• Ability to make decisions and exercise discretion, confidentiality and judgment in keeping with the level of the position.
• Deep network of contacts relevant to science startups (e.g., investors, partners, and customers) and willingness to share and connect relevant parties.
• Ability to work independently or within a team, anticipate issues and needs, and proactively seek resolutions while being resourceful.
