We are looking for an action-oriented individual with strong operations, commercial or asset management experience in transportation.
The Supervisor Logistics will spend approximately eighteen to twenty-four months rotating through operational logistics and commercial transportation roles. At the end of the rotation, the individual will be appointed to a full-time position in Transportation depending on interest, fit, and vacancies. This position is based in our Dallas, TX headquarters.
Rotational Scope:
Operational Logistics and Asset Management:
- Manage fleet assets and develop fleet strategies to meet production and business requirements.
- Manage daily logistics operations and resolve issues to ensure on-time and safe movement of railcars, trucks and barges to customers, exchange partners, terminals, manufacturing and repair facilities.
- Manage operational relationships with vendors.
- Maintain working knowledge of federal, state, local, and international hazardous material/dangerous goods transportation regulations for all modes of transport (UN, DOT, TC, IMDG, and IATA).
- Manage costs within area of responsibility and participate in the budget planning process.
Commercial Logistics:
- Manage commercial relationships with vendors.
- Negotiate contracts for railcar procurement.
- Negotiate contracts for storage and handling of products (railcar storage, terminals and warehouses, transloading, packaging).
- Develop negotiating strategies considering the cost of alternate logistics, carrier profitability estimates, and market competitive impacts.
- Negotiate contracts and rates with carriers (rail, truck, barge, and international vessels).
Marine Operations:
- Monitor service levels provided by marine vendors, taking corrective action when necessary.
- Develop working knowledge of plant and terminal operations that impact marine shipments and maintain the marine operations summary database.
- Use analytical tools to track performance and identify opportunities to optimize decision making. Ensure corporate reporting tools accurately reflect the true cost of logistic services.
- Develop working knowledge of the marine industry ensuring all shipments are in compliance with Corporate Policies and all domestic U.S. and International Regulations.
- Coordinate the barge and vessel nomination process with Demand Chain Planner, Marketing, customers, plants, and terminals to ensure timely and accurate loading and discharging of vessels.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Knowledge of rail and truck business and the strategies for working on behalf of manufacturing or chemical industry
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate or advanced level Excel
- Ability to lead teams and manage projects
- BS/BA degree in Transportation, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or applicable field of study
- Action oriented in a challenging environment
- Ability to operate effectively when faced with changing circumstances or uncertainty
- 5 years manufacturing, transportation, Supply Chain or related experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the organization
- Strong analytical skills in order to conduct utilization and optimization studies
Other Desired Skills
Knowledge of Railtrac, UMLER, Railinc, PC Miler, Transportation Management Systems, SAP and Cost Accounting
