Supervisor, Quality Assurance/Food Safety

About the role:

Under the supervision of the QA Manager, the QA Supervisor will be responsible for the implementation of food safety programs, initiatives, and certifications for the site by leading, coordinating and executing actions efficiently. The QA Supervisor must be able to communicate and interact with all departments and levels of personnel and assimilate pertinent information and data. This position will provide direction and guidance to the Sanitation team. This position is responsible and owner of the food safety, quality, and legality of our products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure Food Safety requirements and corporate policies are followed in the facility
  • Conduct third party (Customer, Regulatory) and internal audits (preparation and follow up as assigned)
  • Coordinate local HACCP program and committee as well as coordinate the pest control program (Meetings, changes, updates, training)
  • Complaints trends
  • Issue Corrective Action Requests when necessary and coordinate local GMP guidelines and committee.
  • Responsible for Pest Control Program coordination.
  • Responsible for Sanitation program
  • Prepare department reports for NCR non-conformance and disposition of materials.
  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual leading the food safety plan
  • Assess and evaluate facility personnel and make recommendations regarding strategies to remedy training, skills, or performance deficiencies
  • Coordinate and provide yearly trainings for the Facility for Food Safety and Food Defense
  • Implementation of GFSI Certification throughout the facility (FSSC 22000)
  • Track Food Safety programs, execution and results on the Shop Floor
  • Track products parameters are kept within critical limits (food safety & quality)
  • Coordinate EMP swabbing, material sampling, ATP cleaning effectiveness review
  • Perform trend analysis, statistical data review to develop improvement plans (Environmental Monitoring Program, Pest Control, and Sanitation)
  • Ensure incoming ingredients are sampled, inspected, and approved for use in the plant
  • Keep Food Safety information up-to-date and well organized
  • HACCP/Food Safety plan owner/coordinator Activities
  • Coordinate and participate in the execution of the internal audit (FSS)
  • SOP definition, verification, and validation (SSOP), trainings for Sanitation Crew
  • Perform training and computer tasks related to the QA and Food Safety topics and as required
  • Root cause analysis using problem-solving tools
  • Sensory panelist of raw material and finished product
  • Coordinate complaints investigation and action plans in conjunction with Production and Maintenance.
  • Ensure data is entered into the Quality Module of SAP accurately and promptly
  • Ensure the correct transactions in SAP are conducted and completed as required (releases, blocks, returns)
  • Perform/participate in traceability and mock recalls
  • Participate in annual management reviews of the entire food safety program and ensure any corrective actions are completed on time
  • Coordinate Hold & Release Program

Education:

  • HACCP and PCQI Certified
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry
Work Experience:

  • At least 4 years of experience in QA or QC department in the food industry
  • Knowledge of BRC, FSSC 22000 Certification and other GFSI audit schemes
  • Quality System implementation experience a plus
  • Must be willing/open to work on weekends and evening shifts as needed
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, Environmental Monitoring and microbiological testing
  • Must be willing to do sensory test chocolate and raw ingredients
  • Understanding of government regulations relating to food processing
Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to multi-task and delegate
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs unassisted
  • Leadership and coaching abilities a plus
  • Chocolate process knowledge is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Individual and team player
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP (QM module)
