The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions - the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health's (DPH) Food Nutrition Services Division at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center is accepting applications for Class 2618 Food Service Supervisor. Some positions are limited to 1,040 work hours in a year. Exempt employees are considered "at will" and serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer. The qualified applicant pool resulting from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future exempt vacancies within the San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH).

Temporary Exempt
- In accordance with San Francisco Charter Section 10.104.

Under direction of the Food Service Manager, the Food Service Supervisor is responsible for supervising the operational activities of a large institutional tray line service providing resident meals, catering and other related services.

Essential duties include but are not limited to: planning, supervising, directing, and training of subordinates in the preparation, serving and storing foods for hospital staff and patients/residents. This includes: requisitioning and inventory of foods; planning work schedules for subordinates to maintain adequate coverage for all shifts; monitoring quality control of foods prepared for consumption; observing the supervising proper sanitation and safety procedures in a food service operation in accordance with health and safety regulations; interpreting departmental policies and procedures to subordinates; preparing and maintaining personnel records such as performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee injury/illness and payroll information;

  • Recommends procedures for economical use and improvements of foodstuffs and supplies.
  • Draws foodstuffs and supplies from central storeroom; is responsible for issue and custody of same.
  • Inspects dining room furniture and equipment for cleanliness and proper repair.
  • Checks dishwashing machines for proper operation; checks food refrigeration and warming equipment for proper temperatures.
  • Supervises the serving of meals, storage of food, and collection and washing of dishes, silverware and trays.
  • Supervises subordinate personnel and inmate help assigned to dining rooms; inspects dining room staff for personal hygiene.

The 2618 Food Service Supervisor also performs other related duties.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the operation of a large, high-volume food service organization. Experience includes tray line operations, quality control, cafeteria/catering services, inventory management, or equipment monitoring in an institutional setting such as a hospital, correctional facility, cafeteria, long-term care facility, or other large high-volume food service organization.
  • Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination); AND

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
