The primary goal of this position is to coordinate and manage the billing and collection processes for Wellfleet’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) business. The Billing Manager will be a member of the Wellfleet Finance team and will establish and maintain processes that ensure that schools and colleges are correctly billed for their enrolled populations and that collections meet established standards. The person in this position must demonstrate a high-level of communication and influencing skills. They will be required to coordinate with Wellfleet enrollment, sales, and account management teams and to communicate verbally and in writing with external customers and brokers.

In this role, you will…

  • Communicate directly with policyholders and broker partners to resolve delinquencies and discrepancies.
  • Take the lead on process improvement, coordinating with other departments as necessary.
  • Ensure that the data within the enrollment system provides accurate census and rates as a basis for billing and advise the enrollment team of any necessary corrections.
  • Coordinate billing and collections efforts for Wellfleet Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) business.
  • Present materials and lead discussions with key stake holders on a regular basis.
  • Create and maintain premium accounts receivable summaries and documentation and reconcile to general ledger.
  • Create invoices and statements of account for SHIP customers using data from the enrollment system.
  • Provide frequent updates to the sales organization and executive management as to the status of specific accounts and make recommendations for action plans and escalations.
  • As needed, coordinate collection efforts with external collections agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Organize and lead frequent inter-departmental meetings and communications regarding specific details and action plans for individual accounts.

We are looking for candidates with…

  • Ability to prepare and present meaningful and actionable reports up to and including an executive level.
  • Analytical, detail oriented, critical thinker, and ability to work independently.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and 5+ years’ experience working in health insurance or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel and Access.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, both internally and externally.
  • Experience in health insurance billing preferred.
