The Staff EHS Specialist is responsible for providing technical leadership to the Occupational Safety Program at Spring House. They will ensure the Occupational Safety programs are in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as Johnson & Johnson Standards. They will partner with scientific and business leaders to assess and mitigate occupational safety risks and build consistency of expectations in the workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise in area of health & safety standards, accident investigation, root cause analysis, and emergency response.
- Develop, implement, and deliver EHS training for assigned EHS topics, ensuring key risk and regulatory requirements are addressed for appropriate audiences, including new hires.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert on occupational safety, risk assessment, and permit to work process.
- Develop and implement operational procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate standards
- Develop EHS objectives for the assigned programs - auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on their implementation and efficiency to management via dashboards & reports.
- Partner with local management to develop and implement corrective and preventative actions to address EHS program deficiencies and ensure EHS regulatory compliance.
- Mentor and guide contracted construction safety personnel.
- Perform routine assessments based on J&J EHS standards to identify program specific deficiencies and areas of risk.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure work is performed in the safest manner possible to avoid injuries, incidents, or fatalities.
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s or equivalent University Degree required; focused degree in Occupational Safety preferred
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) experience, including identifying, evaluating, and controlling EHS risks in the workplace
- Experience working with regulatory authorities, OSHA, and similar agencies
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action
- Self-motivated change agent, always seeking to improve the current state with a demonstrated track record of tangible improvements
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations of general industry (29 CFR 1910) and construction (29 CFR 1926)
- Strong organizational and time management skills to generate all required reports & record keeping systems in a timely manner
Preferred:
- OSHA 10/30-hour for Construction and General Industry
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Experience in an FDA regulated and/or GMP environment
Other:
- Requires up to 10% of domestic and international travel
