Job Description
Bon Appétit is the award-winning No. 1 food brand dedicated to inspiring home cooks and restaurant obsessives alike. In recent years, it’s redefined the food media landscape with its bold imagery, charismatic voice, and an eye toward trends and current events. From personality-driven cooking shows to in-depth reporting on this cultural moment, Bon Appétit gets to the heart of what it means to care about food today. The brand produces a monthly print magazine, three websites (Bon Appétit, Healthyish, and Basically), near-daily videos, a weekly podcast, a successful merch store, and frequent events. Bon Appétit reaches over 40M consumers monthly, including 21M digitally, 15M across social platforms, and a total of 6.5M in print. Epicurious is the definitive guide to home cooking. With 25 years of editorial content and over 35,000 recipes in its archive, Epicurious offers an unparalleled depth and breadth of cooking resources. In 2019, Epicurious launched Well Equipped, a vertical and newsletter dedicated to shopping content for food lovers. That content, which ranges from a love letter to tinned fish to rigorously-tested reviews of cast-iron skillets and blenders, made Epi among the top revenue-driving commerce brands in the company. This year, Epicurious has responded to our current cooking moment by focusing on sustainability and affordability. The brand reaches 10 million monthly viewers on its site, 4.7 across social platforms, and 2.7 million on its YouTube channel, which saw the most significant growth of any Conde Nast channel in 2019.

The Staff Photographer/Visuals Editor is responsible for photographing, curating, and producing innovative visual content across platforms (including social, video, digital, print, experiential) that meets brand integrity and production quality standards, while remaining on schedule and on budget.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the post-production process for lo-res and hi-res photo selection and final delivery. For self-shot photos (as needed), maintain editing, processing, retouching, color correcting, and archiving of all files in an organized manner.

  • Create and maintain timelines, schedules, budgets, shot-lists, call-sheets, and other production documents—proactively sharing and communicating this information to all key stakeholders throughout the project
  • Help lead on-set coordination: can lead a crew through a shot list in a timely manner, problem-solve when issues arise on set, and communicate clearly to help ensure the visual direction is executed successfully
  • Contribute additional content across brands (e.g. social, video, writing, etc.) as assigned.
  • Work closely with editorial leadership and team to understand visual/photo needs for assigned projects and prioritize accordingly.
  • Support all aspects of cross-platform (and cross-brand if applicable) photo shoot production, ensuring the creative concept is upheld from brief to final delivery, including:
    • Curate photographer lists and create visual mood boards
    • Commission teams and liaise with agents, photographers, studios, stylists, hair/makeup, and other vendors throughout the project

  • Demonstrate strong photographic skills and a creative aesthetic to ensure all content meets BA/Epi and Condé Nast standards for brand integrity and quality.
  • Photograph content for Bon Appétit and Epicurious multiple times per week as assigned.
