Job Description
Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision of a manager, the Sr. Software Engineer I is a full-stack engineer who performs work assignments at the feature and project level, with hands on responsibility for ensuring delivery of product sprints that are complete, high quality and timely, conducting all activities in accordance with internal standards and procedures.
As a senior member of the team, they lead by example and openly share their knowledge and expertise with other team members.
Primary Accountabilities:
Technical (75%)
  • Understand and assist with the implementation of architectural patterns and strategies for solutions
  • Participate in project planning and actively contribute to requirements definition
  • Work to ensure each sprint delivers timely, accurate and high-quality work to production
  • Responsible for system/application design and development; perform Unit testing
  • Collaborate with team members and provide thoughtful discussion on tactics and strategies as they are selected
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in a variety of application environments; be able to research issues related to system configuration, software and database design/development and data integrity; demonstrate competence in analysis and problem-solving
  • Translate business requirements into components of complex, loosely coupled, distributed systems
  • Provide excellent customer/user support and technical expertise in end user decision support software tools and end user computing technology
  • Maintain a focus on uptime and performance for high-volume solutions, hosted solutions
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support new software solutions and changes to existing software solutions in collaboration with a team; own and complete tasks as an active contributor to the team, involving others appropriately
  • Provide support during QA and User Acceptance testing as assigned
Leadership (25%)
  • Assist with the hiring of new associates; mentor new team members as they develop domain knowledge and experience
  • Maintain awareness of and become familiar with evolving trends in software development
  • Maintain competence across all technologies used by the team; be a self-motivated learner with strong desire to get up to speed on new technologies and platforms; encourage others to do the same
  • Take ownership of architectural decisions for new and existing systems; share technical knowledge through demonstrations or presentations
  • Exhibit solid understanding of SDLC practices, methods, conventions and standards for the industry, company, and team; lead by example
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science, information systems or related field
  • Experience with UI based technologies
  • Experience with database development and tuning in the MS SQL Server platform specifically: T-SQL, stored procedures, data warehousing
  • Skilled in working with Agile or Lean software development approaches
  • 9-11 years of progressively responsible application engineering roles; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to complete the major responsibilities/essential functions of the position
  • Experience with Object Relational Mapping
  • Ability to troubleshoot environment/hosting-related issues with on-premise web technology (DNS, Load Balancing, IIS, Windows Server, SSL, Security Contexts, basic firewall and networking concepts)
  • Understanding of object orientation and familiarity with modern design patterns; hands on experience with development that utilizes modern design patterns
  • Working knowledge of C# or Java
  • Familiar with Dependency Injection
  • Working knowledge of ASP.NET (MVC preferred), HTML, JavaScript, CSS
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiar with JavaScript best practices and design patterns
  • Familiar with Service Orientation/RESTful Patterns and Concepts/API Design Fundamentals
  • Familiar with modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Familiar with mobile development for Android and iOS
  • Ability to troubleshoot environment/hosting-related issues with cloud-based platform services
