Sr. Director, Design- Women's

General Summary

Retail apparel company seeks a Sr. Design Director over Women's. This role will lead the Women’s design team in the execution of multiple classifications.

Duties:

• Lead partnerships with merchandising team to create seasonal direction in silhouette, fabric and concept that is true to the overall design direction.
• Lead and participate in all relevant company wide initiatives as they arise. Lead team in adjusting to changing priorities.
• Own industry intelligence, including keen awareness of trends in the retail industry and the direct competitor market, and cultural trends as they relate to the customer.
• Mentor, train & develop design team. Provide challenging opportunities to leverage strengths and improve abilities.
• Lead the aesthetic of all fits and styling details. Collaborate with Technical Design to establish blocks.
• Adhere to the design team budget and invoice process.
• Create strategic succession plan. Provide support, feedback and coaching to build future leaders.
• Understand the intricacies of the production process as it relates to each classification.
• Lead team in translating seasonal concept into fully articulated brand appropriate lines for multiple product classifications.
• Use trend intelligence and an understanding of the current and historical business to ensure product is relevant to the customer and reflects the brand.
• Manage deadlines in accordance with the corporate calendar. Find creative solutions to calendar issues throughout the line building process.
• Collaborate with cross functional leadership team to drive results through creative, brand appropriate product, effective process, and a well executed calendar.

Requirements:

• Ability to multi-task and shift priorities
• Proven understanding of the luxury market
• Domestic travel approximately three times a year
• Strong conceptual design ability, color sense, and graphic sensibility
• Minimum of 10 years with apparel fashion design experience
• Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and presentation skills
• Functional knowledge of Excel, Photoshop, & Illustrator
• Bachelor’s degree in fashion design is highly preferred

The salary range for this position is $200,000 to $275,000 annually.
