Position Scope:
Provide guidance and oversight to AES global facilities to facilitate compliance with environmental regulations (CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, SARA, OPA), Company standards and policy, and implementation of best practices. This includes environmental aspects of renewables, transmission and distribution operations, new projects, thermal generation, decommissioning, and construction activities.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop and provide tools and training materials for businesses to facilitate implementation of compliance, Company standards, goals, and policies.
  • Closely monitor developments and actions related to US environmental regulations, public policy, and litigation that can affect AES businesses, including participation in stakeholder involvement, development of comments in public record, and coordination with industry groups on common issues.
  • Initiate or review environmental studies and plans to ensure compliance with environmental requirements, Company standards, goals, and policies.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to global businesses for complex non-routine issues, and development of global standards and policy.
  • Interface with regulators, other governmental agencies, and stakeholders regarding environmental aspects of AES operations.
  • Advise in development and implementation of procedures & policies to facilitate compliance with existing and pending environmental standards and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain global platform for knowledge sharing, compliance tools, and communication to facilitate environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Provide support and detailed guidance to internal stakeholders regarding environmental compliance with Company standards, goals, and policies.
  • Manage complex permitting activities (US Generation, US T&D) and support global permitting activities
  • Support stakeholder engagement and messaging.
Qualifications:
  • Direct experience with permit applications, interpretations, and implementation.
  • Excellent knowledge of and direct experience with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including ability to locate, interpret, and implement regulations in real-world applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to effectively communicate highly technical information. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders including environmental agencies and environmental non-governmental organizations.
  • Minimum of seven years’ recent experience in environmental compliance in a large industrial, processing or manufacturing environment or corporate environmental department.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in U.S. environmental regulations, permits, and requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or an environmental-related field from an accredited college/university.
