Summary of Responsibilities:
- Assist with other environmental programs such as energy efficiency, waste minimization, GHG emissions reduction, mine reclamation, and permit compliance.
- Implementing company environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and advancing programs to reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
- Providing technical and regulatory guidance in response to environmental upsets, releases, and other events; analyzing environmental data, and recommending corrective actions for improving performance; developing and implementing solutions for non-compliance events, including management system and control system improvements.
- Tracking emerging environmental issues on the local, state, and federal levels and evaluating the potential impact on plant operations.
- Review and communicate environmental standards.
- Assist with environmental data acquisition, management, and reporting processes supporting adherence to West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, and Office of Surface Mining requirements.
- Preparing operating permit applications, translating environmental permit requirements into plant operating guidelines, and training management and operating personnel in compliance requirements.
- Conducting audits to ensure plant operations conform to regulatory requirements and company policy.
- Provide guidance on environmental processes/policies.
- Assist with special projects and environmental investigations supporting environmental compliance with applicable permits and rules.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science.
- Experience in Environmental Engineering
Preferred Qualification
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications, computer skills and data analysis skills are required. The activities and responsibilities listed are not all-inclusive.
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced environment.
- Able to manage several projects at a time and make timely and accurate decisions.
- Must be able to work in an office setting and in the mines. This will include wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and may include exposure to natural terrain and field work.
- Familiarity with all major environmental disciplines Air, Water, Solid Waste, SARA, etc.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining or Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
- Experience in Environmental Compliance.
- Mining industry environmental or engineering experience.
- Knowledge of US EPA, US F&W, US Army Corps of Engineers, and other regulatory standards.
