Job Description
Position Summary


YWCA USA is seeking a highly motivated Special Assistant to the Chief Impact Officer to support the Chief Impact Officer and contribute to the achievement of YWCA's mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. As a key member of the team, the Special Assistant will be responsible for managing the Chief Impact Officer's schedule, communications, and special projects. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, as well as a passion for social justice and racial and gender equity.


Accountabilities


Administrative Support


  • Draft and edit correspondence, reports, and other documents as needed
  • Respond to phone and email inquiries, redirecting or responding as appropriate
  • Maintain and organize electronic and paper files, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy
  • Manage the Chief Impact Officer's calendar, travel, and other administrative tasks to ensure efficient and effective operations
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned
  • Support the Chief Impact Officer in preparing for and following up on meetings, including preparing materials, taking notes, and ensuring timely completion of action items


Project Management


  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Prepare reports and presentations on research findings and project progress for internal and external audiences
  • Assist with the development and execution of strategic initiatives and special projects, including conducting research, developing proposals, and managing project timelines
  • Manage project budgets and ensure compliance with grant requirements as needed
  • Collaborate with staff across the organization to ensure effective project implementation
  • Conduct research on various topics related to YWCA USA's impact areas, including racial justice and civil rights, economic advancement of women and girls, and health and safety of women and girls


Communications and Outreach


  • Represent YWCA USA at external meetings and events as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Assist with the development and implementation of communication and outreach strategies to promote YWCA USA's impact areas
  • Serve as a liaison between the Chief Impact Officer and other staff across the organization, ensuring effective communication and collaboration
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, partners, and other organizations
  • Write and edit content for YWCA USA's website, social media, and other communication channels


Requirements


You will be successful in this role if you possess the following experience and core competencies
  • Experience with communication and outreach strategies, including social media and website content development
  • Commitment to equity and justice for all people, with a focus on racial and gender equity
  • Experience working with a board of directors or governing body
  • High degree of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse staff and stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Values and Proficiencies
  • Experience conducting research and preparing reports on social justice issues
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop creative solutions
  • Knowledge of project management software and tools is preferred
  • Experience managing projects and budgets, including grant compliance
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or social justice organization is preferred
  • Experience with fundraising and development
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role, providing administrative and project management support to senior leadership

Nice to have
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as social justice, public policy, or nonprofit management. A Master's degree is preferred but not required

  • This role requires prolonged periods of sitting, using a computer and phone
  • YWCA USA is a remote-first office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday during core hours and occasionally on nights and weekends as needed
  • This role is required to provide proof of COVID vaccination.
  • This position may require occasional travel
  • The individual must have the ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone

Compensation and Benefits


In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. YWCA USA salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.
