Job Overview:
Due to Company growth, we are actively seeking Site Inspectors to join our Electric Operations Teams in Riverside & San Diego California. The Site Inspectors will provide the following inspection services on electrical substation switchyards, overhead transmission lines, distribution overhead power lines, underground systems, generation power plants, and maintenance projects as needed basis.
Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Inspection of tools and testing equipment for correctness and calibration.
  • Materials inspection for correctness (as per bill of materials), quality (visual inspection only, unless otherwise is specified), and storage (as recommended by the manufacturer, or best practices).
  • Perform various duties and/or functions related to construction support and project close-out for IID projects. Create and maintain progressive punch list items to ensure that construction is completed to the fullest extent possible prior to acceptance.
  • Gather inspection records, document quality activities, and issues found in the field, and sign off inspection sheets.
  • Previous to start the job, the Site Inspector will work with the IID Project Manager and/or IID Engineering Representative and construction staff to develop an inspection plan for the construction of the project.
  • Review/verify Contractor as-built drawings prior to any milestone payment. Coordinate with IID Energy Engineering Services staff for as-built information. Coordinate material submittals with IID Materials Planning and Stores to ensure materials correspond with material lists for the project.
  • Conduct inspection and observation of construction activities at the site as required for adherence to project plans, specifications and contract documents, to manufacturers’ installation instructions, and to state and local regulations.
  • Identify and follow up to any preventive actions needed to satisfy project quality requirements.
  • Participate in the constructability review of the design and project documents with the IID Project Manager, engineering and construction staff and Contractor (if applicable) for the construction phase.
  • Act as liaison with outside regulatory agencies that may need to be part of the construction process (environmental, biological, archaeological, etc.).
  • Act upon non-conforming issues and communicate with Project Manager and/or supervisor so corrective actions are provided. Prepare non-conformance reports and follow up to corrective actions.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Two (2) years of college is preferred
  • Knowledge of electric system operations and procedures for submitting line and equipment clearances on transmission and distribution facilities
  • Proven ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings and convey interpretations to contractors
  • Fact-finding skills including knowledge and understanding of where to find and how to present relevant information.
  • Proven ability to investigate and solve construction problems in a timely manner with minimum dependence on others
  • Detailed working knowledge of electric substations, electric transmission and distribution systems, and civil construction experience
  • Must have current US Work authorization and valid US Driver’s License in good standing.
  • This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
  • Able and willing to travel within an assigned region or area.
  • Proficient in the use of project/ contract management systems in order to understand and analyze data as well as strong skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Project)
  • Knowledge of trade agreements, procedures, techniques, work methods and standards used in the construction industry
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in progressive related electric utility industry experience, with transmission facilities construction management
  • Excellent communication skills to deal effectively with all contacts
  • Knowledge of specification and contract enforcement, applicable technical standards, OSHA and other regulatory statutes
