Amazon Music Podcast teams deliver a top-tier podcast discovery & listening experience for customers across voice (Alexa) and visual (Web, Mobile) surfaces.
The Voice & Search engineering team builds and operates services at scale that power the text search experience, voice search and playback experiences, and personalized discovery experiences. We are a young and fast-paced team committed to the best software development practices. Our exciting roadmap combines elements of large scale systems development, solving voice and text NLU problems, and crafting delightful customer experiences.
As a Sr. SDE in this team, your responsibilities include:

• Participate in the full development cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation, and testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.
• Drive continual improvements to the efficiency of the team and owned services.
• Own and drive podcast-related initiatives across teams with Amazon Music and Alexa Entertainment organizations.
• Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing software products and tools.
• Provide technical guidance to the team and mentor junior engineers.
• Translate functional requirements into robust, efficient, scalable solutions that are aligned with the overall system architecture.

The ideal candidate will have

• 5+ years of experience in leading design and architecture of large-scale systems
• Experience in working in a distributed team
• Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience
• Experience in building large scale Search & Discovery systems, familiarity with Search technologies
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or an engineering team lead

Podcast teams are located in Seattle, Los Angeles, & San Francisco and this role is open to candidates across all of these locations.

Key job responsibilities

• Work in an agile environment to define a robust roadmap and deliver high-quality software
• Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
• Lead, mentor, and coach junior engineers into future leaders
• Work closely with partners across the Amazon Music organization to understand a broad range of business and customer problems
• Define and build scalable solutions that are easy to launch and simple to maintain
• Use the industry-leading tools and technologies to solve these problems optimally, and deliver improved search experiences

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
