Network And Voice Engineer

The purpose of this class is to architect, implement, maintain and provide end user support for the County’s network infrastructure and communications systems, including voice and collaboration.

• Participate in the budget process with regard to requirements for equipment upgrades, software upgrades, and hardware/software maintenance.
• Document and assess customer requirements for network and collaboration technology: recommend and implement.
• The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Evaluate network performance and find ways of improvement.
• Serve as Subject Matter Export for communication and collaboration via Microsoft Teams and the Cisco voice platform including but not limited to Unity, Flex, Call Manager, voice gateways, voicemail, WebEx and auto attendant.
• Define, deploy, and the support the County’s network, telecommunications and collaboration systems, including software systems, network infrastructure, and hardware components.
• Troubleshoot network issues such as phones, softphones, SIP, H.323, ISDN, QoS, TCP/IP, fax over IP, and network/call routing.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose phone-related issues with internal staff and external vendors.
• Participate in communications and collaboration services disaster recovery planning and testing.
• Work with the Service Desk team to evaluate and resolve phone-related tickets. Post and track outages to communications systems.
• Develop plans and coordinate with internal and external partners for all voice and related data services.
• Keep current regarding network and voice technology. Recommend ways of improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Troubleshoot system failures and identify bottlenecks to ensure long-term efficiency of network.

• Four-year degree in Computer Information Systems, Communications and Networking, Cybersecurity and Networking or equivalent work experience.

• High level of comprehension and use of Microsoft Teams via M365
• Design, implementation and diagnosis of advanced network communications
• Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, network and call routing, SIP, QoS, BGP, and OSPF
• High level of comprehension and use of Cisco voice and communications platforms
• Route/switch, wireless and security of local and wide area networks including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, implementation and user support

• The work is typically performed in an office.

• Complete CJIS Awareness Training Level 4 every two years.
