Job Description
Indivisible is seeking creative, experienced Organizers to organize, support, and grow local groups in their state or states, and develop new groups. This includes working with Indivisible group leaders and activists to take action on Indivisible’s national campaigns, developing and supporting group leadership, building strong state structures and communication streams, growing our volunteer base and building an activist pipeline, and executing strategic turf plans in collaboration with group leadership.

This role presents a unique opportunity for dynamic self-starters who excel in relationship building, project management, and leadership development - and who want to grapple with how to build a powerful social movement.

We are hiring for this position immediately. This position is full-time, with a starting salary of $57,400 per year, commensurate with experience. To uphold organizational parity and pay equity, we use a non-negotiable salary system that takes into consideration the entire breadth of a candidate’s experience, employment, and education to arrive at their final starting base salary. In addition, Indivisible provides a robust benefits package including full medical/dental/vision/life coverage, a professional development stipend, and an employer matched 401(k) plan.

Assessment Prompt

We just heard that the Republicans in the House are pushing a bill to ban abortion nationally. We are organizing district office visits all over the country.

1. Write an email to the leaders in your turf about the situation and include what your first steps will be to organize the events. Think about how you would use these events to build long term power and how would you make sure these events are equitable and inclusive.

2. Then, describe how you would follow up with leaders in your turf after sending out this email.

Hiring Process

Applications are due by May 5. We will review all resumes and assessments submitted when they are received and let you know if we would like to invite you to the next step.

The rest of the hiring process consists of two interviews scheduled for about an hour and reference checks. The first interview will be with the hiring manager Katie Guare and two or three organizers. The second interview will be with Katie and our National Organizing Director Kim.


Responsibilities

  • Organizing in turf: 70%
  • Develop stronger statewide coordination among groups and activists and build strong, clear communication structures within your turf. Coach groups and members on Indivisible’s theory of change and knowledge resources, and equip them with the tools they need to execute local strategic actions and participate in national Days of Action.
  • Develop and execute strategic turf plans to hit short term campaign and long term power building goals.
  • Report, track, and record real time data.
  • Identify, recruit, and develop new group leaders and volunteers to grow our reach and ability to organize at scale.
  • Proactively engage in critical, data-driven analysis to unearth lessons learned and best practices to strengthen our organizing and campaigns.
  • Organize groups in your turf around Indivisible’s national priorities and campaigns. Create strong, trusted relationships with group leaders and activists. Provide the guidance, feedback, structure, and support they need to organize effectively and develop as leaders.
  • Uphold Indivisible’s values of creating an inclusive and equitable working environment.
  • Take part in department projects and special initiatives to build our structure and long term capacity.
  • Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and inspiring organizational culture for staff to excel in, and provide ongoing opportunities for team members to lead and grow

Required Qualifications (including education, experience, and knowledge/skills/abilities):

  • Ability to tackle problems with actionable plans, generate smart, innovative approaches, not afraid to think outside of the box.
  • Ability to train activists in skill development, power-building, and strategic planning
  • Strong communication and writing skills. Experience building communication structures within turf.
  • Experience developing and implementing field plans, tracking and assessing progress, and adapting as needed
  • Field Expertise & Strategy
  • Strong understanding of what power is, how to build it, and how pressure campaigns work. At least 2-3 years/cycles of demonstrated experience in community, labor, movement, or electoral organizing
  • Ability to Manage in Complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive year-round in a fast-paced, dynamic grassroots campaign environment while managing a heavy workload.
  • Ability to juggle multiple streams of work, prioritize, and problem solve in complex and nuanced situations
