Job Description

Position Description

The Education Support Services (ESS) Senior IT Project Manager will serve as an internal advisor, consultant, and project manager leading large digital transformative initiatives, starting with the FAS Digital Masterplan project to upgrade and modernize 700+ teaching and learning spaces on the Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS) campus. This position reports to the ESS Executive Director and will lead governance committees and a multi-disciplinary team of FAS and University stakeholders to reach a consensus on common goals and translate them into phased roadmaps and projects. Stakeholders including ESS (AV design and engineering, classroom, and event support), FAS (finance, facilities, teaching and learning, faculty committees), and HUIT (central IT infrastructure, academic technology), University leaders as well as external vendor partners (IT, AV, facilities). This role is responsible for the discovery, design, planning, implementation, and tracking success for one or more concurrent complex projects across the FAS.
The role requires a seasoned strategic thinker and problem solver with deep experience in developing and implementing practical options for solving complex business challenges in a highly disciplined and collaborative manner across multiple stakeholders and senior executives.
The candidate should be experienced in IT strategy development, execution, portfolio/program/project management, and change management for implementing IT and AV technologies across a large portfolio of multi-use spaces.
The candidate will be exceptionally well organized, action-oriented, an empathetic listener, a problem solver, and a thoughtful communicator with a record of demonstrated success communicating across all levels of an organization from entry-level staff to top executives using both technical and non-technical storytelling, business case development, persuasion, negotiation, and consensus building skills.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

  • BA or BS desirable.
  • MBA/MPA/MPP or degree in an advanced degree field related to business or IT management highly desirable.
  • Prior experience as an IT or business leader at a large organization, developing proposals and advocating for executive sponsorship and fundraising for complex projects.
  • Exceptional ability to succinctly articulate business impacts, translate technical information into business terms, concisely ‘storyboard’ business and technical problems for senior executives and articulate and demonstrate that IT strategy improves value to the University community.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic planning, project, and change management of complex enterprise-wide digital transformations, leading large diverse stakeholder groups and governance committees from visioning, goal setting, and business case development to current state assessments, short and long-term project roadmaps and managing multiple large and small simultaneous projects.
  • 4+ years of experience managing teams, leading internal change effectively, sensitively, and empathically, attracting and retaining talent, building rapport across teammates and fostering genuine and meaningful collaboration, sharing knowledge transparently, and resolving conflicts.
  • A track record of strong communication, creative problem-solving, and facilitation skills, developing recommendations and proposals to support strategic decision-making, prioritizing competing project variables and dependencies, negotiating process, and policy changes through consensus-based decisions across large diverse stakeholder groups.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy Project Management Foundations course (or external equivalent) preferred
  • PMP or other relevant certification and experience preferred, e.g., Scrum Master

Education Support Services (ESS) provides world-class audiovisual and instructional support, event and media production, training, and consulting services to faculty, staff, and students in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). The team supports the school’s mission by delivering premium technology offerings that enhance and creatively advance the teaching & learning environment. ESS is comprised of six service groups: Teaching & Learning Support, Design & Engineering, Event & Media Production, LanguageCenter, Assistive Technology Services, and Piano Technical Services.
