Job Overview

The Senior Director of Leadership & Legacy Giving (SDLLG) will provide leadership, expertise, and fundraising prowess by organizing and advancing strategic fundraising projects. They will operate as a leader integrated across the spectrum of V Foundation fundraising to ensure successful planning, execution, and analysis of micro and macro-level efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the SDLLG will collaborate with staff in major gifts, events, annual giving, donor stewardship, and prospect research to advance annual and long-term fundraising goals.

The SDLLG will serve as the point person managing campaigns at the V Foundation. These campaigns will be annual campaigns, such as establishing a framework for Fund-A-Need initiatives, and long-term campaigns, such as a comprehensive campaign meant to achieve record-setting results. The SDLLG will understand the ways in which data can help an organization plan for and interpret fundraising pipeline activity and results.

The SDLLG will lead at the intersection of principal gifts and deferred/estate gifts. They will carry a portfolio of some of the most capable donors and will be the internal resource that provides direction to our deferred/estate gift program. They will help establish a marketing plan to elevate the volume of deferred/estate gifts and partner with major gifts staff when opportunities present themselves in major gift officer’s portfolios. The SDLLG has deep experience cultivating, soliciting, securing, and stewarding gifts of six-and-seven figures, with a proven track record of significant principal gifts outcomes.

Key Responsibilities and Activities:

40% Cultivate, solicit, and steward principal gifts and top deferred/estate gifts donors. Establish and execute strategies that advance the moves-management process. Generate revenue, multi-year pledges, and future gifts that advance the V Foundation’s research portfolio. Serve as the organization’s principal gifts strategist impacting $1M+ gifts. Lead monthly principal gifts strategy meetings in collaboration with development leadership and the Chief Executive Officer.

30% Establish deferred/estate gift strategies that elevate our marketing and cultivation of future gifts. Manage the internal process related to documenting and organizing donors in the deferred/estate gift category. Collaborate with donor stewardship to ensure consistent and high impact stewardship is part of the donor engagement lifecycle.

30% Facilitate the planning and execution of campaigns by establishing fundraising objectives, timelines, and integrated plans. Collaborate with development leadership, grants administration, events staff, marketing, donor relations, and board/volunteer leadership to ensure coordination and clarity. Collaborate as point-person for emerging market development, nucleus-building campaign activities. Review data to understand trends, opportunities, and challenges. Advise executive leadership to impact direction and business decisions.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to conceive of mass marketing plans to communicate deferred/estate gift opportunities with follow-up mechanisms in place.
  • Experience working closely with executive leadership, to include developing strategies to engage leadership with top donor prospects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of deferred/estate gift structures and the process to administer them internally. Proven ability to cultivate and document deferred/estate gifts.
  • Experience working closely with members of fiduciary boards and volunteer leadership.
  • Proactive, self-starter with a strong sense of purpose.
  • A belief in the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and action that demonstrates this commitment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of campaign fundraising with record-setting results. Experience as a fundraiser during campaign planning, execution, and closure.
  • Proven experience in principal gifts by personally securing six and seven-figure commitments.
  • Proven ability to connect one’s individual performance goals to team and organizational goals.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 7-plus years relevant experience.
