Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

Habitat for Humanity International is in search of a dedicated Development Officer, Individual Giving who will be responsible for developing a strategic portfolio to identify, close and retain five-figure and above gift relationships with individuals, and for meeting a significant annual revenue goal.

This position can be based at the administrative headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia or remote within the US, and requires 40% travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Routinely engage board members, organization executives and current donors in peer-prospect identification, visits, and five-figure closings.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Meet or exceed annual individual revenue goals.
  • Establish a strategic and systematic focus on closing five-figure and above commitments from high net-worth individuals.
  • Collaborate with team members and Special Gifts colleagues to analyze portfolios and strategize upgrades, and with Corporate Programs colleagues to cultivate individual gifts from corporate partner executives.
  • Guide the development of compelling proposals and oversee the development of creative presentations and reports.
  • Provide accurate and timely activity and pipeline reports and revenue forecasts.
  • Demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity for donors – seeking to “crack the code” of what compels each donor to give substantially by asking the right questions – and able to personally adapt as needed to meet the needs of donors.
  • Compassionately articulate the Habitat story.
  • Close complex agreements for Diaspora gifts, Campaign, Planned Gifts and Financial Products.
  • Develop a caseload of active major gifts prospects and carry out strategies for solicitation of these prospects.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward qualified prospects and donors, managing a portfolio of approximately 250 qualified relationships in a defined territory in the United States.
  • Work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate face-to-face visits, and other activities with donors.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Courage – We do what’s right, even when it is difficult or unpopular.
  • 3+ years of front-line experience in individual gifts development in a nationwide setting, preferably as part of a nationally deployed team.
  • Successful experience closing five-figure commitments including planned gifts, campaign and endowment gifts, and investment options.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful fundraising in an environment of similar complexity.
  • Active support of HFHI Values:
    • Humility – We are part of something bigger than ourselves.
    • Courage – We do what’s right, even when it is difficult or unpopular.
    • Accountability – We take personal responsibility for Habitat’s mission.
  • Ability to collaborate with others in a complex, matrix-structured, dynamic organizational environment.
  • Safeguarding: HFHI requires that all employees take seriously their ethical responsibilities to safeguarding our intended beneficiaries, their communities, and all those with whom we work. Managers at all levels have responsibilities to support and develop systems that create and maintain an environment that prevents harassment, sexual exploitation and abuse, safeguards the rights of beneficiaries and community members (especially children), and promotes the implementation of Habitat for Humanity’s code of conduct.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to listen, and an unusual capacity to engage, inspire and persuade.
  • Ability to engage board members and key stakeholders in donor visits, and to earn and maintain their confidence.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Humility – We are part of something bigger than ourselves.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 35-45% to a designated geographic region to regularly visit and cultivate new and existing donor relationships.
  • Superior presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with diverse constituencies including principal donors, Board members, national staff and leadership in the field.
  • Accountability – We take personal responsibility for Habitat’s mission.
PREFERRED (in addition to minimum):
  • CFRE certification.
  • Experience in a multi-national federated organization.
The target hiring range for this position is $84,200 - $94,000 per year. For work locations in the US, the salary range for this position is between $79,000 - $119,000 per year.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance.
