Job Description
On our path to becoming the world’s favorite way to shop, we’re assembling an unparalleled global talent network, accelerating individual careers, and disrupting entire industries. We are on a mission to liberate humanity from all the meaningless time spent managing their purchases and finances, so they can do more of what they love. We’re in search of global talent eager to embrace our atmosphere and defy their own expectations.

Who You Are

We are looking for ambitious people with significant drive! We need problem solvers, initiative takers, people that see opportunities and potential to improve. You should be passionate about your job and enjoy a fast-paced international working environment. You will play an important role in taking Klarna to the next level - thus, you should desire to go above and beyond to deliver and grow as an individual. At Klarna we embrace change, you should dare to challenge the status quo and be persistent in doing so.

What Will You Do

Your accountability line will be in the second line of defence within Risk Control’s Credit Risk Team. The Credit Risk team is a newly formed global team responsible for independently assessing and reporting on Klarna’s credit risk exposure, and this is a newly created role on the team to further expand the team’s presence in the US. Your competence line will belong to the Analytics competence where you will have a senior US Risk Control person as your Competence Lead ensuring your long term development at Klarna.

You will work in close collaboration with the first line of defense, advising and guiding the business on the improvement of Klarna’s underwriting approach and credit risk management. You will also use your analytical skills to independently assess credit risk and to improve credit risk reporting to senior management and the board. Although your focus area will be credit risk, you will also have opportunities to support broader risk management projects and needs as Klarna’s US business grows.

What You'll Do

  • Perform statistical analysis to assess the impact of changes in credit strategy in a rapidly evolving industry
  • Proactively and effectively communicating with various stakeholders, discussing the root cause of trends, assessing their impact, and proposing solutions/optimizations.
  • Developing as a professional in an entrepreneurial organization provides the opportunity to work with your areas of interest.
  • Using analytical tools (e.g. SQL, Python, or similar) to analyze data and problem solve with the end goal of detecting trends and challenging the business.
  • Supporting wider business objectives by providing analytical expertise on new products and markets and collaborating closely with other teams where relevant.
  • Ensure metrics and strategies are fit for purpose in terms of the current credit environment and emerging risks (e.g. macro trends).
  • Ensure adequate controls, monitoring and testing programs are in place.

You Should Have

  • An understanding of how to perform data extraction and manipulation, as well as other programming languages (R, Python, MatLab, Java, C#, etc.).
  • A degree from a university in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a Business field.
  • Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English
  • Fantastic stakeholder management skills.
  • A curious mindset - you’ll be someone who loves to question the why!
  • Tech savviness with the ability to write rules for credit decisions.
  • Experience in using structured approaches to problem-solving.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of background from consulting, investment banking, fintech/payments company, or other high growth organization with experience in a quantitative or analytical role.
  • SQL knowledge and willingness to further develop the skill
  • Excellent track record in optimizing business performance and identifying gaps in business strategy, with a focus on financial services, ideally credit risk.
  • Significant drive and ambition.

Location: New York City, NY or Columbus, OH

Please note that we don't offer relocation assistance for this role.

Salary Band: 70,000 - 90,000 USD as a total compensation per year (this is variable depending on level assessment). In addition to the posted salary range, there are additional components to Klarna’s compensation package.
