The Senior Consultant within the Continuous Improvement and Data Analytics Group (CIDA) reports to the Associate Director, CI and is responsible for executing process improvement and other projects of strategic importance while producing valuable and meaningful deliverables. This includes working with and building relationships with process owners in Financial Affairs and across the University, mapping processes and assisting process owners in identifying efficiency opportunities using lean principles and other frameworks, and creating presentations and presenting to various levels of management.
Major duties of this position include:
- Incorporate best practices, tools, templates, and standards throughout project execution
- Represent Financial Affairs on committees, projects, and other work as needed
- Collaborate with the university's Data Analytics group on projects where data analysis would complement process improvement work.
- Lead complex, cross-functional consulting projects, which includes determining and defining project scope and objectives, identifying resource needs, supervising project team members, preparing project budgets, and developing and managing detailed project schedules.
- Drive innovation through collaborative problem solving and actively seeking opportunities for efficiencies and improvements.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement methodologies and data-driven decisions.
- Assist with the creation of Lean Program training materials and execution of training sessions university wide.
- Assist with the development and implementation of standardized tools, templates, and methodologies to support CI work and ensure quality deliverables.
Required Skills
- Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial, cross-functional team environment
- High level of technical and analytical capabilities, skilled at decision-making under uncertainty, combined with a commonsense approach
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the proven ability to present and explain complex information and suggest process improvements to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently and develop audit programs and procedures without established guidance
- Proven track record in leading successful projects to drive organizational change
- Must have strong organizational skills, analytical/quantitative skills, and familiarity with project management tools and methodologies
- Bachelors degree and 8+ years of relevant experience in client service, management consulting, financial analysis, or process improvement
Preferred Skills:
- Professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or willing to get one).
- Experience in Higher Education and associated administrative function (e.g. IT, budgeting, operations, research).
- MBA or relevant masters degree
