Reporting to the Director of Campaign Operations, this position serves as the lead for donor engagement within the development team, advancing the mission of the National Archives Foundation by leading efforts to steward relationships with donors and prospective donors and maximize philanthropic support. This multifaceted position encompasses strategic communications and storytelling, donor recognition and stewardship, impact reporting, event-related collateral and communications, fundraising collateral and pitch decks, and the strategy, development, and implementation of impactful digital campaigns.
The Donor Stewardship & Communications Sr. Manager is a proactive, confident self-starter that thrives in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent is persistent and driven to succeed in retaining and growing a robust, engaged community of individual and institutional donors. Success in this role will require candidates to be:

Job Elements
- Provides leadership and day-to-day management in planning, developing, and coordinating a comprehensive donor engagement and communications program.
- Ensures that all development communication efforts are of the highest quality and executed with precision, accuracy, and expedience. Drives consistent, meaningful, and unified messaging across platforms, tools, and messengers.
- Liaises with external vendors, tech platforms, and agencies for specific donor communication projects as needed.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director, Director of Campaign Operations, and Marketing Director to develop persuasive and compelling content that brings the Archives’ story to life through fundraising collateral, emails, newsletters, social media campaigns, and impact stories that inspire, engage, and motivate supporters’ philanthropic activity.
- Defines and develops content for donor recognition initiatives, ensuring appropriate acknowledgment.
- Leads implementation of internal and external fundraising communications projects, including integration of donor communication strategies with the marketing and communication team’s efforts.
- Leads and coordinates bespoke communications (including significant writing and/or editing) on behalf of the development team.
- Collaborates closely with the Development and Special Events teams to conceive and implement targeted communications, stewardship, tailored events/experiences, and donor recognition/appreciation efforts to deepen engagement and support.
- Uses analytics and metrics to optimize digital campaigns and improve donor engagement, conversion rates, and retention.
- Leads the development and implementation of donor engagement and stewardship plans in collaboration with frontline development staff.
Qualifications
- Ability to think strategically and anticipate the needs and expectations of colleagues and executives.
- Demonstrated prior success in bespoke customer experience, donor engagement/stewardship, and/or donor communications.
- Familiarity with RE NXT or similar CRM systems is preferred.
- Strong computer skills, including fluency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple concurrent tasks, exhibit flexibility, and meet deadlines.
- 5+ years experience in donor engagement/communications or equivalent experience in nonprofit communications strategy development.
- A passion for U.S. history, a commitment to education and civic engagement, and an enthusiasm for the mission of the Foundation and the National Archives
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for donor/public tours and special events.
- Bachelor’s Degree in English or Communications or equivalent work experience required. An advanced degree or specialized certification/designation is beneficial.
- Impeccable verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and present data effectively.
