About the Role
Plus Power is looking to hire a Senior AP Accountant (Specialist) to join the company's accounting team. This individual would assist the team in compiling and reviewing financial information, maintain accounting records by project, preparing GAAP financial statements, support the annual audit, and research and implement new accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have prior renewable, development, or construction experience and the ability to take the initiative in completing tasks in a time-sensitive and high-quality manner. This role includes significant responsibilities and room for growth within the company.
Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce effective and efficient internal controls to maximize protection of company assets and financial reporting policies, procedures, and workflow.
- Provide assistance concerning invoices and payments to other subsidiaries, and related companies as needed
- Identify and file use tax returns as needed with states and local agencies
- Act as a liaison between Plus Power and vendors (over 300+ vendors) regarding billing and payments
- Proactively work on initiatives to implement operational accounting efficiencies through process improvements and control enhancements.
- Update, verify and maintain accounting journals and ledgers and other financial records. Ensure compliance with project contract accounting requirements and controls. Assist in the production of periodic financial reports and ensure that the reported results comply with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Participate, as directed, in management of external relationships including accounting firms, bank relationships, investors, insurance brokers and bonding agents.
- Assist with compliance issues around accounts payable processes (W-9, sales and use tax, etc.
- Support reporting to investors, as necessary.
- Compare vendor terms with activity periodically to ensure the most cost and time effective methods and timing of payments are being used
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, as necessary.
- Reach out to vendors or internal team for Bank Instructions (ACH, Wires, BillPay) & W9 information
- Assist in the reconciliation of credit card charges on the Company card
- Setup new vendors in ERP Quickbooks or (Netsuite – New ERP system in implementation process) and Bank platform
- Lead the 1099 Processing
- Review and confirm approval of all project related expenses. Work closely with project management team to process invoices and ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner.
- Ability to work autonomously with little supervision while continuously ensuring alignment of objective
- Proactively work on initiatives to implement operational accounting efficiencies through process improvements and control enhancements.
- Process large volumes of A/P invoices with for proper approval, supporting documentation, general ledger coding, data entry, payment processing, discrepancies and implement solutions related to vendor accounts
- Develop and enforce effective and efficient internal controls to maximize protection of company assets and financial reporting policies, procedures, and workflow.
- Support reporting to investors, as necessary.
- Other projects as assigned
- Prepare journal entries related accounts payable processed and ensure proper general ledger coding in support of monthly closings
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, as necessary.
- Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure that all bills and payments are accounted for and properly posted
- Generate reports detailing accounts payables status
- Assist with supplying documentation for annual audit, loan draws, etc
Qualifications
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel along with macro-writing capabilities, pivot tables, and data queries
- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance, with an MBA or CPA desired
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and clients
- High degree of business acumen, discretion, and professionalism
- Strong organization and communication skills and ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
- Current experience in Renewables/Power & Utilities or Construction, preferred
- 4+ years' experience in relevant work experience in accounting department
- Ability and desire to learn and take on responsibility quickly
- Working knowledge and experience with QuickBooks/NetSuite or similar software
Compensation, Location, and Benefits
Highly-competitive remuneration from one of the nation's most exciting leaders in the energy storage markets. Flexible, work from home locations acceptable for the long-term, or hybrid work from Plus Power's offices in San Francisco or Houston.
The expected salary range* for this position begins at $75,000. Factors that may be used to determine the final compensation include relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic labor market, and other factors consistent with applicable law. This position is also eligible to participate in our annual discretionary bonus program.
