Security Guard 1 - Iowa Veterans Home

The Iowa Veterans Home is seeking applicants for a full-time Security Guard 1 position to provide security and support to IVH. This position is for second shift.

Duties Will Include But Not Limited To

• Assist and direct visitors by furnishing information in a courteous manner.
• Patrol the campus both on foot and in security vehicle, directing traffic, enforcing speed limits and vehicle registrations.
• Receive communication from previous shift of any issues or concerns to be made aware of. These include, but are not limited to, illness of a resident, behavioral problems, mechanical problems with equipment, and any residents on pass or furlough who may be returning to the facility during the shift.
• Make regular rounds of the outbuildings and check all doors to ensure they are properly locked. Will be alert for fire, intruders, malfunction of equipment, etc.
• Maintain the security of the facility on assigned shift.
• Complete a daily written report, which covers the activities of the shift. Give an oral report of activities to the oncoming shift.
• Make regular inspection tours of the resident units, health care facilities and tunnels, being alert for intruders, fire, water leaks, mechanical problems or any other unusual occurrences. Will be alert for any intoxication or other unusual behavior problems a resident or visitor may display. - Enforce Iowa Veterans Home rules of behavior. Report any disturbance that cannot be disposed of immediately to the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD). Check all doors to ensure that they are properly locked and turn both inside and outside lights on or off as required. Report any lights that are out to Maintenance Department.
• Provide lead role in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Operations.

Under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS’s) new vaccine mandate for healthcare workers (published on November 5, 2021 and affirmed by the United States Supreme Court on January 13, 2022), all potential employees of this facility must have received, at a minimum, the first dose of a primary series or a single dose vaccine OR have an approved religious or medical exemption (as determined by the Iowa Veterans Home) OR have documentation reflecting a temporary delay in vaccination (as determined by the agency in accordance with CDC allowances), prior to the start date. Candidates shall coordinate with agency staff to ensure all requirements are met before the individual provides any care, treatment, or other services for the facility and/or its residents.
