Join a security department where you can be yourself and slot into an engineering role that suits you best.
Whether you’re more of a software engineer who loves security, a network engineer who loves security, or a security engineer who loves technology, there’ll be a fit for you here. Add any kind of variable into the job but keep “Security Engineer” and it’s extremely likely there’ll be a home here for you.
The core focus of the security team is like most others, protect the people, data, infrastructure, and software from outside threats. But another focus – and of the company in general – is working with your friends to solve complex problems and have a great time doing so.
You’ll come into a company with science and technology in it’s DNA, founded by computer scientists many years ago. There’s plenty of variety of problems to get your teeth into, whether you’re working on companywide defences by building a brand-new piece of software, or working closely with the HR team to ensure that future employee data is protected, you’ll always be able to collaborate and learn.
Every engineer in security has a strong technical foundation with the ability to write code to build their own solutions and are expert problem solvers. They’re also completely aware that to be secure, you don’t have to lock everything down and password protect every single element of your system. That said, you also appreciate that in some cases, that’s the correct course of action.
The range of experience desired and accepted here is extremely wide. You could have eighteen months’ or eighteen years’ experience; it really doesn’t matter. What matters is your desire to work in Cyber Security. Passion is mentioned a lot in job adverts, but you’ll be able to show your true passion for cyber security because you follow all of the news on attacks, you know what the latest discovery in security research is and you may even have attended security conferences.
From a technical perspective, you’re likely to be a pretty strong programmer, almost at software engineer level. Here, it doesn’t matter what language you use as when you get down to designing a solution, you’ll always use the best tool or language for the job. High code quality will be essential.
Salary range will be $175,000-250,000. The benefits here are excellent, with a state-of-the-art office, on-site gym, free food in the staff canteen every day, pension, healthcare and much more. This is a global financial firm with some of the best minds in the world, so they want to make sure you have everything catered for (literally) so that you can focus on doing what you do best.
