CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

This position is accountable for developing, implementing, leading, and executing the long-term growth strategy within the respective region of the General Industrial business unit in the Performance Coatings Group (PCG). The Sales Director will strive to achieve growth in sales, margins, market share and profits for a region exceeding $200 million in annual sales. The Sales Director is responsible for supporting the organization’s mission to seek and secure new business in the growth markets in the General Industrial segment.

  • Maintains and shares knowledge of competitive activities and Sherwin-Williams’ competitive advantages throughout the commercial team.
  • Evangelizes value selling as a core competency of the team. Leads from the front, driving the organization to sell paint, as fast as possible, at a premium price.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Technical in creating sales presentations and promotions that include the benefits of our group programs.
  • With marketing and business development, ensure field sales execution is aligned with GI USCA strategic planning initiatives.
  • With Marketing, maintains memberships and participates in industry associations frequented by the target customers, and coordinates and organizes local participation in the local chapters.
  • Drive culture of inclusion and continuous improvement by supporting ID&E and L&OD initiatives including but not limited to trainings, talent management, and individual development plans.
  • The incumbent has the responsibility to develop the long-term growth strategy and solicit assistance and support from other disciplines within the Division, namely Marketing, Finance, R&D, Facilities, and Global Supply Chain.
  • Lead the sales function within the assigned region for the General Industrial division to deliver on critical leading indicator metrics for sales rep productivity – specifically sales call count, annual net new business, pipeline value, and opportunity count.
  • With Sales Excellence, drives utilization of our core sales competencies, and the salesforce.com.
  • Develops and delivers Territory Business plans with Sales Managers to enhance customer loyalty, productivity, growth and profitability.
  • Lead the sales function within the assigned region for the General Industrial division to meet or exceed annual budgeted financial targets – specifically, sales, margin contribution, and expenses.

REQUIRED DIMENSIONS:

Facility Type: Non-Union

Decision Making Authority: This position has the authority to resolve any problems related a customer and recommend special sales programs and promotions within guidelines of Division policy. The position requires management of allotted resources to meet financial goals. The position is also responsible for managing and implementing programs as outlined in the SW Polices and Procedures. Will have the authority to establish programs and procedures needed to address market place needs. Generate e-expense promos as necessary. Approvals of purchase orders within preset monetary limits.

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:

  • High School or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Examples of force multiplication – leads a team to do more signification success across the business
  • Incumbent is required to have and to exercise a deep understanding of industry issues and trends, of the various business segments as they specifically relate to opportunities and needs of the customer.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a people manager
  • Demonstrated results with coaching, developing, hiring, etc

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
  • Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.
  • Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
  • Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • 7-10 years of industrial coatings experience. Foundational understanding of industrial coatings

  • 50% or more
