This recruitment is for one (1), limited duration, full-time position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is not represented by a union. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies.
Limited duration positions are benefit eligible positions with a designated maximum length of service. This position is expected to last through August of 2025; however, based on workload need and funding the position end cannot be anticipated or may become permanent depending on funding.

Manages the agency’s safety and risk programs, in consultation with appropriate executive management and managers, with an outcome of enhancing safety in the workforce, building, and public.

About DPSST:
The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, firefighters, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers. DPSST is also the regulatory agency that enforces employment and training standards for the above listed public safety disciplines and licenses proprietary security managers, security contractors and officers, polygraph examiners, and private investigators.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field; AND two (2) years of experience in Workers' Compensation insurance loss prevention or as an occupational health and safety representative in an industrial, manufacturing, government, utilities, institutional, or agricultural setting
OR
Five (5) years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety consultation work in an industrial, manufacturing, government, utilities, institutional, or agricultural setting or in Workers' Compensation insurance loss prevention.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to assist staff and management with emerging or present issues.
  • Ability to evaluate and identify current safety and risk factors, preference my be given to those in which have worked in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, and Safety consultation work in an industrial, manufacturing, government, utilities, institutional, or agricultural setting or in Workers' Compensation insurance loss prevention.
  • Demonstrated leader with the ability to spearhead current agency safety issues for improved safety performance.
  • Ability to oversee consistent safety and risk management policies, programs, procedures, trainings, and practices in accident prevention and threat management programs in compliance with local, state federal and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate using clear and concise methods both verbally and written.
  • Ability to make sound judgement, evaluate and initiate a proactive or active approach in response to various situations.
