Position Description


The Safety Manager and Training Coordinator is responsible for partnering with the Senior Safety Manager to develop, implement and train employees on all Federal, State, Local, Manufacturer and Corporate safety policies, practices and procedures.


Position Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • CHST certification preferred
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS)
  • 5 year Degree in Safety-related field, 5 years of experience in construction safety or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in computer software - Microsoft office, LMS systems, Smart Sheets or equivalent, background check software, etc.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work closely with the Safety Director on the management of open Worker’s Comp Claims. Maintain protocol for claims management, clinics, Return to Duty and Long-Term Disability.
  • Provide the leadership required to create and implement processes resulting in a positive and proactive Safety Culture throughout the organization. Enforce strategic Safety directives to our entire labor force—Union and Non-Union, Executives and Non-Executives. Provide solutions to complex safety, health, security & compliance issues.
  • Assist and develop training programs
  • Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills and KPIs.
  • Assist in the development of JHA, Critical Lift, Spill Prevention, Environmental, and Site Audit Plans.
  • Perform root cause analysis of every incident and/or near miss, catalogue, and review results. Communicate findings to avoid recurrence of same or similar circumstances. Always strive to do better tomorrow than we did today. Develop recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrence
  • Manage and maintain programs, logs and files for the storage, classification, and identification (SDS) of hazardous chemicals, liquids and solids stored at facilities and job sites.
  • Select appropriate training methods or activities (e.g., simulations, mentoring, on-the-job training, professional development classes.
  • Map out annual training plans for management
  • Host train the trainer sessions.
  • Manage safety audits of facilities and job sites including tools and equipment.
  • Design, prepare and order educational aids and materials.
  • Work closely with HR to schedule onboarding process and DOT and random drug testing. Create and maintain drivers’ qualification files.
  • Perform continual research into the latest technological, educational, training, and other advances which ultimately keeps Gravity Enterprises ahead of the curve and on the leading edge of advancement in developing & delivering best safety practices.
  • Ensure all site activities, facilities and job sites are in compliance with current health, safety and Environmental regulations.
  • Maintain online reporting systems such as but not limited to Avetta, Browz, and ISNETWORLD.
  • Assist in the creation, training, and administering the Company’s health, safety and environmental program and procedures including but not limited to: First Responders, CAL OSHA, MSHA, First Aid, CPR/AED, DOT, SDS, IIPP, COSP, Maintenance
  • Conduct Power Point Presentations (orientations, quarterly Safety Meetings)
  • Research and recommend new training methods.
  • Provide CAL OSHA and ANSI updates and clarifications to the all staff members.
  • Attend workshops and continuing education classes approved in advance by CEO.
  • Manage and maintain in-house training facilities and equipment.
  • Provide timely 0-60 notifications to Executive Team for all incidents regardless of the severity of the incident.
  • Conduct organization wide training needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.
  • Provide available training to employees and provide necessary information about sessions.
  • Investigate, document, and process safety incidents both internally and externally using online tracking systems. Assist in managing all incurred injuries to a successful conclusion.
  • Conduct studies and investigations to ensure compliance with Local, State and Federal Safety and Health Laws, including industrial hygiene. Establish a rapport with local fire and environmental agencies along with a strong relationship with your peer group within our industry.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the safety and security programs for shop equipment including but not limited to shackles, slings, spreader bars, FAA lights and guards.
  • Actively lead and participate in industry organization safety workshops and committees.
  • Any other duties relating to the administration and management of organizational program culture development assigned by CEO.
  • Conduct on sight safety audits multiple times a week, regardless of job location.
  • Available for periodical weekend work and on call after hours and weekends.
  • Implement, Monitor, and enforce corporate safety & PPE standards & requirements making sure everyone including vendors and customers are aware of our safety PPE standards & policies at our facilities and job sites.
  • Use known educational principles and stay up to date on new training methods and techniques.
  • Oversee & approve procedures for handling, documenting & recording crane & rigging inspections.
  • Maintain updated curriculum database and training records.
