Position Overview:
Are you a seasoned leader with experience in credit policy, credit risk measurement principles, and risk assessment methodologies in Single-Family mortgage? Our Impact:
The Origination Credit Risk team provides independent assessments of material Single-Family acquisition credit risks, and using our robust business acumen, collaboration and focused analytics, we support Freddie Mac’s balance of credit risk and mission objectives within the defined risk appetite.
Your Impact:
As the Director you will play a vital role in managing credit risk within a mission driven enterprise as you:
- Monitor the use of Terms of Business and other exceptions within the business and appropriately bring up issues or breaches
- Identify emerging trends in underwriting innovation related to collateral, income and asset evaluations and articulate impact on credit and collateral risk
- Develop a sense of team and company pride in your department, leading by example
- Review action plans written by the Single-Family division for remediation of issues identified by ERM, Internal Audit or FHFA regulators. Provide feedback as necessary, track remediation results and provide status to ERM leadership
- Advise senior executives on credit decisions and emerging risks through written assessments which include the impacts to risk measurements and capital requirements
- Apply your deep knowledge of Freddie Mac loan approval guidelines and policies to effectively challenge the proposed policy changes
- Manage and develop a small team of seasoned risk management professionals
- Maintain business relationships with the Credit Policy team in Single-Family to cultivate open communication related to policy change development. Participate in the Single-Family Division policy change management processes to provide early feedback and effective challenge
- Improve effectiveness of credit risk identification and policy change assessments through keeping well-informed of internal new acquisition, competitor and general mortgage market trends
- Participate in or lead risk reviews or targeted risk assessments of the Single-Family acquisition business. Provide summary memos that could include credible challenges or Management Identified issues. Work with the business and/or Internal Audit to ensure identified gaps are remediated
Qualifications:
- 4-year (B.A., B.S) degree in Economics, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience Advanced degree in a related field preferred
- 4+ years management experience
- 12+ years of experience in Single-Family secondary mortgage origination business including familiarity with key credit risk concepts and measurements

- Brings organizational awareness and in-depth understanding of current business trends within broader external environment to effectively synthesize and present evaluation of risk factors or issues

- Interacts on a regular basis with senior leaders and executives
- Champions the culture and attitudes, and actively promotes and models the critical supporting behaviors
- Sets direction for driving assignments to completion with no to minimal direction
- Influences others across the enterprise and in sensitive situations without damage to relationship
- Drives implementation of strategic policies with broad functional impacts pursuant to articulated methods, techniques and evaluation criteria
