Job Description

The Interfaith Researcher is part of the College Impact Laboratory (CoIL) at The Ohio State University (OSU), reporting to Professor Matthew J. Mayhew. The incumbent will serve as a primary point of contact for The National Study of Faculty Religious, Spiritual, and Secular Affiliation and Practice by executing the strategic plan to streamline as well as coordinating the design and analysis of this large-scale mixed-methods research project funded by Templeton Religious Trust. Responsibilities will include designing, piloting, and administering surveys, recruiting research participants, conducting in-depth qualitative interviews, coding data, and visualizing the data for diverse stakeholders. The position will spearhead data cleaning, coding, and analysis, as well as delegating tasks accordingly. This is a Term position.

The Researcher will also direct and monitor all research-related projects at the lab. (https://u.osu.edu/coil/projects/ ). This will include but is not limited to INSPIRES Index, EDiCTS, and Empowerment. The incumbent will facilitate meetings, delegate tasks, and mentor graduate students involved in these projects. The position will oversee the outputs, efficiency, and metrics to make data-driven decisions for each project housed under CoIL to ensure timely and quality completion of deliverables. In addition to supporting the lab’s application of strategic priorities, the incumbent must support best practices and systems that will ensure metrics are being informed by data and reported out accordingly.

The incumbent will have numerous opportunities to author or co-author journal articles, conference proposals, and op-eds based on the available data. There are also opportunities to become involved in conceptualizing new projects and writing grant proposals in collaboration with other team members. There are also possibilities to teach in the Higher Education and Student Affairs graduate program based on interest and availability. Other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates must be comfortable with advanced quantitative methodologies (e.g., structural equation modeling, multilevel regression, survey development validation, etc.) and knowledgeable about qualitative data collection and analysis. Candidates must productively navigate competing responsibilities, deadlines and manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the research team.

50% The National Study of Faculty Religious, Spiritual, and Secular Affiliation and Practice- Leads the execution of a mixed-methods project in collaboration with Professor Matthew J. Mayhew. Oversees and offers guidance to a dedicated team of doctoral students. Responsibilities will include designing, piloting, and administering surveys, recruiting research participants, conducting in-depth qualitative interviews, and managing project data. The incumbent will spearhead data cleaning, coding, and analysis, delegating tasks accordingly.

25% Project Support- Leads the coordination and data visualization of projects in CoIL including, but not limited to INSPIRES Index, EDiCTS, and Empowerment. Responsibilities also include facilitating meetings, delegating tasks, and working closely with staff to ensure positive and productive work environments. The incumbent will oversee the outputs, efficiency, and metrics to make data-driven decisions for each project housed under CoIL to ensure timely and quality completion of deliverables.

15% Teaching- Develop a course syllabus and teach one HESA program course. Responsibilities include lecturing, leading class discussions and administering various grading assessments. Also, co-author publications based on project data including papers submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals, national conference proposals and presentations, and other pieces in public-facing media as opportunities arise.

10% Other duties as assigned- Examples of other duties include communicating with the granting foundations, preparing summary reports, and conducting other tasks relevant to the research projects. Writing new grant proposals and collaborating on designing and initiating new projects are also potential opportunities.

Required Experience: Demonstrated experience in project management and large-scale research efforts. Familiarity with advanced quantitative methodologies (e.g., structural equation modeling, multilevel regression, survey development validation), and experience conducting rigorous qualitative research. Exceptional planning and organizational skills required. Demonstrated ability to multitask and to delegate tasks confidently and work with a team. Minimum of 5 years of experience applying research and visualizing data for diverse stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Possesses critical thinking and decision-making abilities.

Desired Experience: Experience in mixed-methods research design and analysis. Demonstrated effort to communicate research through papers, conference proposals, and/or presentations. Experience in data collection and management software (e.g., Dedoose, Qualtrics) and data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R).

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $62,700 - $83,600.
