Dr. Yijie Geng’s lab at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Technologist 1 to join their team. The Geng lab studies social behavior and autism spectrum disorder using zebrafish as their main research model. The lab also uses mouse and cell culture as additional models. The research technologist will work under general direction of Dr. Geng to support the Geng lab’s zebrafish and mouse colonies, as well as conduct molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, zebrafish, and mouse experiments and procedures as instructed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain Geng lab’s zebrafish facility, including preparing for zebrafish feed, feeding fish, cleaning tanks, breeding, tissue collection, and genotyping. The research technologist will conduct these tasks as well as supervise undergraduate assistants to conduct these tasks.

  • Assist other members of the lab to maintain mouse colony and cell lines.

  • Conduct experiments as instructed by Dr. Geng and assist other members of the lab to conduct experiments as needed. These include molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, cell biology, zebrafish, and mice experiments and procedures. Conduct simple data analysis tasks.

  • Help with purchasing and maintaining Geng lab’s inventory and lab equipment. Help keep the Geng lab in compliance with UW lab safety (EH&S) and IACUC requirements.
    MIMIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Two years experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field.
  • Experience working in a research lab.
