Position Summary

The Sonographer will perform basic and advanced obstetric and pelvic diagnostic ultrasound procedures, transvaginal ultrasounds, biophysical profiles, and umbilical doppler. This position requires 10-hour shifts, with site rotations of our Ontario & Silver Spring clinic Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:30pm. Possible Saturday shifts in the future.

Reportability

This position will report directly to the Sonography Technologist & Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Prepare initial diagnosis by identifying abnormal conditions for review by OB/GYN physician.
  • Recognize cross-sectional anatomy as demonstrated. Differentiate normal/abnormal structures and provide an assessment concerning pathology.
  • Assist Obstetrician and other specialists in performing invasive procedures, i.e., amniocentesis and sonohysterograms.
  • Provide preliminary report of sonography examinations for use by the interpreting physician.
  • Use ultrasound equipment and assist providers to conduct invasive procedures.
  • Greet patient, explains ultrasound procedure, and answers Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as an OB Ultrasound Sonographer required. Completion of an American Registry of Diagnostic Medical (ARDMS) accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology required. Graduation from an AMA (American Medical Association) approved program in diagnostic ultrasound technology preferred. Must remain current with and maintain all ARDMS regulations. High school diploma or GED certificate required. Current certification by ARDMS in abdomen and/or OB/GYN required. Preferred certification in Nuchal Translucency/1st trimester screening certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. questions.
  • Provide general supervision of the ultrasound department when working independently and debrief with supervisor, as needed.
  • Assist OB physicians in performing diagnostic Nuchal Translucency ultrasound procedures as well as training sonography technologists. Must remain current with and maintain all ARDMS regulations.
  • Provide education to patient about procedures performed and communicate information as appropriate to patient as visualization of anatomy is seen on display screen.
  • Select the appropriate machine and probe to be used to obtain diagnostic information requested by referring physician.
  • Produce and evaluate ultrasound images and related data that are used by OB/GYN physician to render a medical diagnosis.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong computer skills, ability to use basic office equipment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as an OB Ultrasound Sonographer required.
  • High school diploma or GED certificate required. Current certification by ARDMS in abdomen and/or OB/GYN required.
  • Completion of an American Registry of Diagnostic Medical (ARDMS) accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology required. Must remain current with and maintain all ARDMS regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
  • Strong ability to act independently as well as be able to work effectively in a team.
  • Must be self-motivated to increase their level of understanding and knowledge in their field with new procedures that evolve in the field of Women’s Health and infertility.
  • Graduation from an AMA (American Medical Association) approved program in diagnostic ultrasound technology preferred.
  • Must be organized with a strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, have strong attention to detail, and a strong ability to utilize time efficiently.
  • Knowledgeable withultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred certification in Nuchal Translucency/1st trimester screening certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
  • Experience and understanding of computers and software applications.
  • Must be responsible, attentive to details and have a desire to develop professionally.
  • Strong ability to follow procedures and protocols is essential.

Language Requirement – Ability to communicate effectively in English is required. English and Spanish proficiency or fluency preferred.

Physical Demands – Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment – Mostly in a typical office and/or home setting with quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluids which require the practice of Universal Precaution procedures. Opportunity to work a hybrid schedule – remotely & onsite, as needed.
