The University of Washington's Division Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is seeking a part-time Research Analyst 1 (1.0 FTE) based at the Harborview Medical Center campus. The lab is investigating the molecular risks for clinical outcomes in (1) patients hospitalized with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure; (2) patients hospitalized with pneumonia; and 3) patients hospitalized with sepsis. Projects involve analyzing large clinical and scientific datasets, data cleaning and organization, database management/organization, large data transfers, data abstractions from the electronic medical record, performing statistical analyses, and preparing reports. A small role will be to manually abstract clinical data, process biospecimens, and help enroll patients. Successful candidates are required to interact in a collaborative manner with other team members to accomplish organizational goals and expected to contribute to group efforts in all areas.
Working under the oversight of the principal investigator, the Research Analyst 1 will perform data management/analysis, clinical data abstraction, patient recruitment, and specimen processing and management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Data Management
  • Basic statistical analyses (e.g. clustering) Patient recruitment
  • Data abstraction from the EMR
  • Assist research coordinators on clinical data abstraction using the electronic health record. Specimen processing and management
  • Equivalent education/experience
  • Perform basic database queries to identify specimens and execute sample pulls for analysis MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Large data transfers
  • Generate basic reports from clinical databases (e.g. generate severity of illness scores, basic demographics, and clinical outcomes from databases)
  • Database cleaning and organization
  • Process human samples (e.g. blood and respiratory) in accordance with established protocols
  • Assist research coordinators on patient enrollment
  • A Bachelor's Degree including college-level course work in statistics or one year of work experience in statistics, analysis, or researchOR
  • Organize sample acquisition schedules in accordance with study visits (e.g. HME filters) Clinical data abstraction:
  • Efficiently organize and track samples using existing sample management databases.
