Job Description
The Department of Biostatistics Clinical Trials Statistical Data Management Center is seeking a Research Support Manager to provide developmental and administrative coordination for grant program activities within the center.


Grant Exploration and Development Assist in Center budget preparation and control. Prepare and revise budgets for new grant proposals and renewals, prepare proposals for submission, and provide just-in-time documents. Assist faculty and/or staff regarding departmental support activities, including the appropriateness of expenditures, contract or grant requirements, extension requirements and changes in policies and procedures.


Post-Award Administration/Financial Responsibility Initiate and monitor external subcontractor contracts and Professional Services Agreements (PSAs) for studies. Initiate and monitor amendments to subcontracts and PSAs in a timely manner. Monitor subcontracts and PSAs for performance and compliance and prepare recommendations for corrective action. Monitor account expenditures, inform Center Directors of irregularities and prepare recommendations for corrective action. Initiate and prepare accurate and timely reports, analyses and supporting data for a complex account or group of accounts. Prepare, review, and analyze budget projections and monitor fund allocations and expenditures. Review and audit account statements and reports to verify compliance with source of funding guidelines. Assist in the year-end closing of accounts and preparation of financial reports and annual budgets.


Compliance Monitor compliance with contract/grant terms for all CTSDMC projects. Track all administrative deadlines and ensure deliverables are met on time.


Operational/ Administrative Support Oversee and monitor logistical and financial aspects of CTSDMC’s investigator meeting and training sessions. Analyze unit operating practices such as record keeping systems, personnel requirements, space allocations, performance standards, and recommend revisions and/or establishment of new systems and procedures. Analyze management records to improve workflow, simplify reporting procedures and implement cost reductions. Perform human resources functions including interviewing, selection, training, and performance evaluation.


External Communication and Negotiations Review, resolve and respond to requests for information by employees, University departments, other universities, NIH, CTSDMC contractors, and the general public. Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public. Serve as liaison to faculty, staff, and students; University departments, other universities, NIH and outside organizations regarding interpretation of policies, procedures, and programs.


Leadership/Supervision Establish work priorities for assigned staff and student workers. Serve on CTSDMC’s Executive Committee as Fiscal/Administrative Team Leader. Monitor CTSDMC staff educational and training requirements and provide reports to Directors upon request. Develop Center-wide orientation materials and monitor successful completion by new employees.


Requires


A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in an administrative capacity including accounting is required.


Excellent Written And Verbal Communication Skills Required.


Evidence of experience requiring strong organizational skills as well as attention to detail is required.


Must be proficient in computer software applications.


Desires


Some knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations is desirable.


Experience in pre and post award management of federal and privately funded research grants and contracts is desirable.


Ability to be certified within the University of Iowa Cash Handling program.
