Position Title: Research Project Manager

Organization: American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN)

Position Type: Full time, contract to hire

Reporting Relationship: Director, Project Management

Location: Remote, United States

Description:

The American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation founded in July 2006. ATHN provides a national informatics platform and public health services that support clinical care and outcomes analysis, research, advocacy, and public health reporting in communities impacted by rare hematologic disorders. ATHN partners with a network of over 146 affiliated clinical sites (ATHN Affiliate Network) conducting research, surveillance, and quality improvement initiatives. In addition, ATHN partners with government programs, community-based organizations, and industry, with the ultimate goal of improving the care and quality of life for those affected by rare hematologic disorders.


ATHN is a virtual organization, meaning that the entire ATHN staff are remote workers. We rely on modern communication tools to create a collective sense of purpose and stay connected with each other.


Summary:

The Research Project Manager role is a valued role within ATHN’s Project Management Office (PMO). This role is a collaborative role designed to support ATHN’s research team by assuming responsibility for the project administration activities of ATHN’s portfolio of research projects. In addition, as a member of the ATHN’s PMO, this role also participates in managing ATHN’s project management processes and standards and ensuring the Executive Leadership Team has insight into the risks and status of ATHN’s project portfolio. Although this role reports to the Director of Project Management, will work closely with the Chief Science Officer and the Director of Research Programs, who together represent ATHN’s research leadership.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and develop projects by working with internal stakeholders to define the concept and create a vision to execute. This includes setting and managing expectations, developing a detailed project plan, defining the scope of the project, and assigning team members to specific tasks.
  • Constantly evaluate and monitor project performance even after project closure through retrospective meetings.
  • Ensure stakeholders are satisfied with the project by building strong professional relationships to create effective communication.
  • Serve as a block remover for teams, working efficiently to keep teams moving forward with the plan.
  • Maintain accurate project plans with details.
  • Monitor project progress and set deadlines by creating an accurate timeline of project completion to ensure tasks are finished within the confines of the assignment, the project manager must remain aware of how the project is progressing.
  • Track budget and time estimates for projects against actuals to understand the project status and report information weekly.
  • Manage scope creep when it impacts time, resources, or budget with leadership.
  • Provide project communications to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Manage and monitor cross-business unit communications for status and blockers.
  • Manage risks and mitigations for a project. The project manager also anticipates delays that may occur and apprises the team of any changes in the project’s needs.
  • Accountable and responsible for driving projects deliverables and providing accurate reporting weekly.
  • Lead team status meetings and communicate results to stakeholders.


Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related business field or equivalent work experience.
  • Certified Project Manager Professional, strongly preferred or equivalent experience working with clinical research teams in a project management role.
  • 2+ years as a project manager working with research teams conducting clinical or translational research, preferred.
  • 5+ years as project manager.

Travel:

Infrequent. As needed to attend staff meetings and conferences. Note: As an organization dedicated to serving persons with rare medical conditions, we take health and safety seriously. All staff that are traveling or meeting in-person for ATHN business must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated and boosted.

Salary Range: $60-$80 per hour. Commensurate with experience. In compliance with the pay transparency statements for the states of New York and Colorado.
