Research Associate Jobs

The Department of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health is seeking a Research Associate to coordinate molecular epidemiological research projects for the Reproductive Molecular Epidemiology Research and Education Program (RMEREP).
Research

• Critically review literature for purposes of furthering the research and developing new hypotheses in conjunction with the Program Director and Associate Director.
• Adapt and perform epidemiological and experimental protocols from the literature.
• Coordinate multiple Program research projects.

Conduct Experiments

• Maintain confidentiality of data collected.
• Contribute to the design of research protocols.
• Perform basic and complex epidemiological and experimental procedures and techniques as outlined in research protocols and assure fidelity to the protocols.

Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications

• May contribute to research projects as evidenced by documented recognition in publications as an author or for technical assistance.
• May perform statistical analysis of data using advanced methods and tools.
• Participate in quality control efforts and implementation of ongoing technical and operational changes.

Administrative and Project Management

• Contribute to preparation and renewal of IRB protocol submissions or equivalent protocol submissions.
• Establish deadlines to ensure research protocol requirements are met. Prepare progress reports.
• Assure safety and compliance; respond to compliance and safety violations.

Facilities and Equipment Management

• Coordinate and manage laboratory equipment and facilities.
• Test new equipment and troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment failures and repairs.

Supervision/Staffing

• Collaborate with all program staff to create and maintain a high quality research program.
• Ensure Program research staff compliance with UI policies and procedures.

This position is located at the State Hygienic Lab Building in Coralville, Iowa.

Requires
Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in epidemiology, human health science, or basic science. A master's degree is preferred.
1-3 years of laboratory research experience in molecular biology, genetics, or other basic science.
Good verbal and written communication skills, including some public speaking experience.
Demonstrated ability to function independently.
Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management, and database software.
Highly Desires
Experience conducting statistical data analysis.
A background in epidemiological research.
Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and/or PowerPoint.
Desires
Experience with development and submission of IRB applications.
Experience preparing manuscripts, reports, charts, and other documents of a technical and scientific nature.
Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
