Bitterroot Bio is committed to pioneering the emerging field of cardio-immunology, which investigates the interplay between the immune system and cardiovascular health. Bitterroot Bio, launched with foundational technology from Dr. Irv Weissman and Dr. Nick Leeper at Stanford, completed a $145 million Series A financing led by ARCH Venture Partners, Deerfield Management, GV, and Koch Disruptive Technologies. Through our research, we have uncovered the critical roles that immune cells and immune modulators play in the development and progression of cardiovascular disease. Bitterroot Bio's lead product, BRB-002, a protein therapy targeting CD47 to address the underlying causes of atherosclerosis and vascular inflammation, is expected to enter clinical development in 2024. Our ultimate goal is to provide new hope to those suffering from cardiovascular disease and transform the way these diseases are treated.

Summary

We are seeking a highly driven Research Associate to join our dynamic research team in Palo Alto, CA. This role will contribute to the growth of Bitterroot's research portfolio by designing and executing critical experiments to advance the development of novel cardio immunology therapies. This position is ideal for junior level scientists with a strong foundation in mammalian cell culture and assay development that wish to participate and learn in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Responsibilities:

• Employ traditional biochemical and molecular biology techniques, including flow cytometry, Western blotting, RT-qPCR, and kit-based applications.
• Analyze data and present findings using standard software like GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Design and conduct cell-based and biochemical assays to validate targets and characterize small molecules and biologics.
• Cultivate and maintain mammalian cell lines for experimental purposes.
• Operate laboratory equipment such as Bioplex-200, flow cytometers, and microscopes.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, biochemical techniques, and cell-based assays.
• Ability to swiftly learn new techniques and adapt within a dynamic startup research environment.
• Bachelor of Science degree with 2-5 years of relevant experience in industry or academic research.
• Preferred experience in developing and optimizing assays in a 96-well format.
• Strong attention to detail and capability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with the ability to commute into the office.
• To perform this duty the employee must have the ability to sit or stand at and operate a computer terminal and walk or travel within the facility. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
