Job Description
Position Summary


The purpose and mission of the Office of Public Health and Safety works to address root causes of crime and reduce violence in Indianapolis neighborhoods. The office convenes public safety and public health agencies along with community partners to execute focused policy efforts in the areas of food security, offender re-entry, and homelessness. The office acts as the coordinating agency for Mayor Joe Hogsett’s violent crime reduction strategies and comprehensive criminal justice reform efforts. The agency is able to do this by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the constituents of Indianapolis and Marion County.


Job Summary


Position will help to coordinate the city’s efforts to link individuals reentering society to various resources and community organizations. Incumbent in this position works with re-entry grant recipients and community partners concerning community events and ensures grant management requirements are met. The incumbent will provide direct services to high at-risk individuals reentering society which includes housing and food equity. The incumbent will work independently and within a team environment. Position is controlled by standard operating policies and procedures. The incumbent must exercise good judgment when working with the community, maintaining integrity, and equity. Must have a valid driver’s license. Position reports to the Manager Re-entry.

Position Responsibilities


  • Utilizes data management system to record outcomes providing monthly or biweekly statistical reports reflecting all areas pertaining to reentry
  • Participate in bi-monthly meetings to monitor grantee performance and compliance with grant terms
  • Attends community events and engage the community in pro-social activities, document activity and progress of referrals received from community-based organizations and law enforcement partners
  • Responsible for maintaining open lines of communication between The Criminal Justice Center (CJC) and the Office of Public Health & Safety
  • Meets with Re-Entry team quarterly to provide updates concerning fellowship, participants, and objectives moving forward for fiscal year
  • Reduce recidivism among at risk population
  • Handles staffing, time management, and scheduling for team residing at CJC
  • Responds to immediate and non-immediate barriers presented to provide and connect those seeking resources with appropriate provider
  • Coordinate with IMPD and OPHS leadership to identify and conduct outreach with juveniles and young adults most at risk for recidivating
  • This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time
  • Research various ways for local and statewide opportunities that benefit OPHS and the Re-entry sector
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Builds positive relationships with community members, neighborhood associations, law enforcement, schools, jails, and other government partners
  • Spends time before, during, and after release to connect potentials with the best resources conducive to their successful reclamation into society


Qualifications


Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field or five (5) years of experience in a similar role may be considered in lieu of degree. Must have strong public communications skills in both oral and written formats. Knowledge of the dynamics of the city’s re-entry barriers or capable of acquiring such knowledge. Willing to navigate in challenging neighborhoods and diverse groups of people. Must have good administrative and organizational skills for data entry and writing case notes. Must have experience with Microsoft office.


Preferred Job Requirements And Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field with two (2) years of experience in a similar role. Multi-lingual proficiency is a plus. Prior experience with criminal justice, law enforcement, or non-law enforcement violence reduction. Prior experience in state or local government. Experience with records management and grants management is a plus. Must have strong public communications skills in both oral and written formats. Prior experience in state or local government. Knowledge of the dynamics of the city’s re-entry barriers or capable of acquiring such knowledge. Willing to navigate in challenging neighborhoods and diverse groups of people. Must have good administrative and organizational skills for data entry and writing case notes. Must have experience with Microsoft office.
