Looking for a career in helping children adjust to changes in their lives? Then join our AVIVA Children’s Services program! Easterseals Blake Foundation offers behavioral health services to children currently in foster care.
The Ranch Hand is responsible for providing daily care and support of ranch by completing daily animal care chores, maintaining ranch facilities, and providing support to Ranch Manager and Land Management Coordinator in completion of major projects. The Ranch Hand is also responsible for supporting environmental enrichment and training efforts for ranch animals. The Ranch Hand is responsible for facilitating the smooth functioning of the ranch by providing daily care and maintenance of the ranch and all animals housed there while advocating for animal health and welfare.
Essential Duties & Functions (With or Without Accommodation):
- Will maintain Equine Program productivity, timelines and quality standards.
- Provide support for programing up by preparing work space and animals as needed.
- Attend and participates in required meetings.
- Maintain daily care and observation records to track animal wellbeing and health.
- Any other duties as assigned.
- Ensures services are provided in a culturally competent manner.
- Complete daily maintenance tasks to maintain safety and ranch environment.
- Adheres to all EBF policies, procedures and protocols in addition to State/RHBA regulations.
- Participate in continuing education as assigned or needed.
- Provides routine animal medical care and first aid as needed and consults on medical necessity of veterinary intervention.
- Provides additional animal training, environmental enrichment, mental stimulation, or rehab as needed.
- Independently provide daily care for all ranch animals, including but limited to: feeding, working, cleaning, providing emergency and routine medical care etc.
- Monitor and advocate for animal welfare; mental, emotional, and physical.
Minimum Educational and Certification Requirements:
Education –
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience –
- Animal care and management experience preferred.
- No experience necessary.
- Ability to read and interpret animal body language, varied ground work experience with a diverse herd and knowledge of animal psychology and physiology a plus.
Regulatory –
- Clean criminal background check and the ability to obtain and maintain an AZ DPS Level 1 fingerprint clearance card.
- Current valid, unrestricted driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that meets the standards of the agency.
- Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position including but not limited to: HIPPA, Confidentiality, CPR, Prevention and Support, and Article 9 training.
- Minimum 21 years of age.
Knowledge and Skills (with or without accommodation):
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with well-developed problem-solving abilities.
- Displays cultural sensitivity and demonstrates the ability to form constructive and collaborative working relationships with others from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of equine first aid, care, and nutrition.
- Flexibility and ability to respond to changing priorities.
- Ability to communicate in a culturally inclusive manner and being open to other people’s differences.
- Knowledge of basic first aid, desert awareness, and desert safety.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Must be reliable and punctual.
- Strong organizational, time management, project management and multitasking skills.
- Skill in using business software such as email, MS Office, smart phones, office equipment and electronic health records.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position.
- Must be able to stand and move comfortably for several hours in a row in an outdoor environment.
- Must be able to walk, run, climb, stoop, kneel, sit, stand, reach, stretch, bend, squat.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
- May work in an office setting.
- Must be able to stoop, squat, reach, stretch, ascend and descend stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to operate a computer, phone and other office equipment.
- Must be able to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as face mask, gown, goggles and gloves, for any amount of time necessary to provide a physical barrier to protect the employee and others.
Psychological Requirements:
- Must be able to adapt to diverse cultural environments and communicate in a culturally inclusive manner.
- Must be in compliance with all EBF and regulatory requirements.
- Must be able to remain flexible and reprioritize according to the changing demands of the day.
- Must be able to manage stress in a fast-paced, unpredictable, intense setting.
- Must be able to represent Easterseals Blake Foundation in a professional manner in all situations.
- Must be able to work in an extremely stressful environment where there are considerable mental and emotional demands. Must be able to manage high volumes and unpredictability of work. The types of situations that may be encountered, particularly when children and adults are involved, cause emotional stress.
- Must be able to remain calm, non-defensive with a supportive attitude during stressful, potential crisis, and crisis situations.
