Job purpose

The Quality Control Technician performs and documents routine field and laboratory testing/inspections as required by Project Quality Management Plan or as directed by Construction Quality Manager.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Nuclear Gauge Density Testing on Soil and Rock bases
  • Making concrete cylinders/beams in the field for early or 28-day acceptance
  • Marking and laying out rough areas on pavement to grind
  • Breaking cylinders, beams and cores for strength determination
  • Analyzing Profilograph traces
  • Filling out, documenting and submitting all reports that correlates with the above duties and responsibilities
  • Using core drill to cut concrete cores on various pavements
  • Testing Concrete for Air Content, Slump, and Temperature
  • Sampling aggregates and soils at jobsites, concrete plants, and quarries
  • Performing Concrete Plant inspections
  • Profilographing and Straightedging pavement
  • Measuring, trimming, and capping concrete cores
  • Building spreadsheets for profilograph and grinding operations

Qualifications

Below qualifications are preferred but not required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand basic behavior-based safety programs and enforce company s safety policies
  • MoDOT certifications for Aggregate Tech, Soil Density and/or Field Density, Absorption, International Roughness Index, Concrete Field, and Concrete Strength
  • Completed the Nuclear Density Gauge Safety and Hazmat/Transportation Training
  • IDOT certification in level 1 Concrete
  • Have a strong work ethic
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing. Excellent customer relations skills.
  • ACI Certifications
  • Completed Railroad Safety Training
  • Ability to work independently and resolve practical problems, keeping all appropriate parties aware of issues or risks
  • Completed 10-hour OSHA training

Other Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver s license

Working conditions

Outside environment, exposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes. Site specific exposure to hazardous materials requiring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Noise levels are site specific and may be subject to PPE.

  • The position requires that you will walk the construction site, climb ladders, climb stairs and walk on uneven ground
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; used hands to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • You are occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel
  • Position will require employee to spend a large portion of their time on the project sites
  • You must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
