Position Summary
This position is responsible for safely and efficiently sampling and performing routine laboratory testing of aggregate material under the supervision of the Site Manager or other designated personnel.
Responsibilities
- Inspects haul units for cleanliness
- Uses prescribed standards to determine chemical and/or physical characteristics for quality control purposes and to determine conformity to specifications
- Investigates and resolves customer technical problems under the guidance of designated personnel as needed
- Aides in the training of co-workers as needed
- Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instrumentations such as agitators, scales, ovens, and other lab equipment as required
- Maintains test data files
- Cleans, maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment
- Records test results in AggQC and/or standardized forms
- Inspects stockpiles for proper construction
- Works around industrial equipment and machinery to obtain material samples from production facilities such as conveyors, stockpiles, rail cars and/or customer sites
- Reports and communicates test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required)
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
- Willing to cross-train in different areas of production
- Will take an active role in the plant safety initiatives
- Must become certified within a reasonable time
- Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Must be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position
- Technical degree preferred
- Two (2) years' experience in quality control in an aggregate or construction environment
- State certified for aggregate field and laboratory testing preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Able to obtain state certification
- Able to read and interpret gauges/dials and make competent decisions related to processing equipment
- Able to work varying shifts as needed, outdoors, in varying weather conditions
- Able to adhere to MSHA guidelines and plant safety rules and regulations
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to perform duties with minimal supervision
- Possess basic math skills
- Able to work cooperatively with others toward a shared goal, contribute actively to the team efforts, and possess a positive attitude in working with others as a team
- Possess effective coordination, interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge and skills
- Possess basic computer skills & able to learn new software
- Able to ensure a safe work environment by prioritizing safety, then quality, followed by production
