Job Description

"Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the Open Competitive minimum qualifications listed below.

Public Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications (Provisional Opportunity):

A. You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

AND

B. you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics.

Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience working in a community public health program and have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills. They will have the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities as required.


Duties Description

"The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program which provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs, and adults in other programs.

The Public Health Nutritionist (PHN) 1 will oversee CACFP training opportunities for Sponsoring Organizations to include creating and/or updating training materials based on new federal regulations, research, and best practices; coordinating and scheduling statewide trainings; conducting virtual and classroom trainings; and maintaining CACFP’s online learning modules. This position is vital to ensuring that Sponsoring Organizations are properly trained and able to comply with State and federal regulations. The PHN 1 will assist with data collection to identify and prioritize training needs; monitor the registration process for all scheduled trainings; assist with the development and implementation of post training evaluations; provide support for creating training user accounts; respond to the unit's bureau mail log; assist the bureau with developing training for state staff to promote integration of Centers and Homes; and assist with USDA Management Evaluations to create new trainings as needed."
