CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The Department of Kinesiology & Applied Physiology is seeking a full time Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) or RDN-eligible individual to support several investigations related to diet and cardiovascular/neurovascular health in humans. The RDN/RDN-eligible will be responsible for developing and overseeing the preparation of diets for several controlled feeding studies. Familiarity with dietary analysis software is required. The individual will interact with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, research technicians, nurses, exercise physiologists, and administrators across several University departments. This 3-year position is supported by an externally funded grant and continuation is contingent upon the availability of funding.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understands and adheres to appropriate ethical standards of professional conduct, confidentiality and privacy.
- Understands, is committed to, and contributes to implementation of departmental and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating a multicultural environment.
- Purchase and prepare food necessary for controlled diets in conjunction with staff or graduate students.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Develop several controlled diets focused on manipulating the amount of one or more nutrients. Each diet lasts 7-10 days in length.
- Serves as a mentor/preceptor for undergraduate students who are assisting with the diet preparations.
- Appropriately discusses, documents and maintains sensitive, confidential participant information.
- Assessment of dietary intake utilizing diet analysis software.
- Regularly interacts with research participants to ensure dietary compliance
- Serves as a resource person in appropriate areas of knowledge, experience and responsibility while exercising considerable independent judgement, resourcefulness and sensitivity.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred, in Nutrition or other job-related discipline and four years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and .
- Strong organizational & time management skills.
- Effective writing and editing skills.
- Utilize computer programs to enter and analyze data as well as generate graphs.
- Certification as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration preferred. Licensed to work in the State of Delaware as a RDN preferred.
- Holds Servsafe certification or willing to obtain certification within 3 months (required)
- Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Ability to work effectively with people from various sociocultural backgrounds.
Special Requirements:
- Flexibility to work evenings periodically, and to adjust work assignments according to the changing needs of the study participants.
- Ability to lift and transport coolers of food (generally medium weight) and cases of water for study participants.
