Job Description

Lead transformational programming to foster-involved youth

Description

Be A Part of Something Amazing
TasselTurn Education (TTE) is an edtech nonprofit improving transition outcomes for foster care-involved and housing-insecure youth through educational attainment. Given the high mobility rates of this demographic of youth, TTE leverages technology to: boost high school graduation rates, connect youth to post-secondary programs, and reward youth for achieving competency-based goals. Less like homework and more like academic advising in your pocket, using our app, youth can request and get matched with an education coach within minutes! Our ultimate goal is to break down the barriers to postsecondary pathways for foster-involved and housing-insecure youth so that they can chart a path towards economic mobility and financial security through college attainment. Our work has been recognized by Forbes, ESSENCE, and Cosmopolitan Magazine. Our funders and partners include: AT&T, L’Oréal Paris, Echoing Green and Chicago Beyond. Who we’re looking for
We’re a small, but mighty team recruiting key team members to help grow our work. That means we need team members who are comfortable with being the first hire for certain positions; excited by autonomy and willingness to work on projects outside the scope of their job description when needed; and are entrepreneurial in thinking. Regardless of the role, we also look for candidates who have a personal connection to our work or a demonstrable interest in secondary education, higher education, or serving youth impacted by the child welfare system and housing insecurity.

About Our Team & Office

  • We’re a hybrid team based in Chicago, IL – working three days in office, two days WFH
  • We work hard and occasionally on weekends
  • We don’t believe working full-time means 40 hours/week. We encourage participation in non-work stuff
  • We are relaxed, standard dress code is business casual
  • We value diversity of experiences and perspectives. Members of our team and board are foster care alumni

Our Benefits

  • Half-day Fridays
  • Weekly budget for in-office snacks
  • 21 days of paid time off (PTO) AND 20+ days of paid holidays (including Dec 24 - Jan 1)
  • $1,000 annual professional development budget (learning and self-improvement is a huge part of our work culture!)
  • $350 monthly healthcare benefit
  • Choice of one-year entertainment streaming subscription (Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Disney+)
  • $500 remote work budget

Our new Program Manager will be the primary point of contact for TTE's programming by providing leadership and managing the direction, delivery and tone of all program-related activities. As the face of our programming, you'll be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with recruitment partners, implementing the vision of the leadership team, capturing and monitoring programmatic outcomes, and building a program budget and ensuring all program related activities stay within budget. You'll report directly to the Executive Director.

Additional context: In this role, you’ll manage three different programs:

  • TasselTurn Platform: our core programming delivered via our app

  • Summer Bridge: summer programming delivered in-person to foster parents and other caring adults

  • College Partner Network: our post-secondary recruitment partner network

This might be the right job for you if . . .

  • You look forward to coming up with creative ways to grow TasselTurn Education through innovative programming
  • You’re excited about the opportunity to join a young organization on the path for scalable growth
  • You’re comfortable with solving problems, that may be new to our work
  • You’re excited by the opportunities and challenges associated with being the first programs hire at an early stage nonprofit
  • You have a natural love for organizing and managing projects
  • You feel comfortable speaking publicly to diverse audiences

How you’ll spend your time

Program Operations (60%)

  • Handle all logistics and communication between recruitment partners across industry
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of research based practices that support foster-involved and housing-insecure youth
  • Work with Education Coaches, Executive Director, and Program Designer to align programming with youth needs and personal interest
  • Track, document, and report all expenses within outlined timelines and reporting systems
  • Represent TasselTurn Education with poise, expertise, and pride during external events in the community and with partners
  • Develop infrastructure to record, track and report outcomes of key beneficiaries served by TasselTurn Education
  • Maintain relationships with recruitment partners
  • In collaboration with the Program Designer, develop and implement unique and fun innovative programming to better serve youth and their familial network
  • Develop and maintain program budget
  • Provide collateral materials to nonprofit partners, schools, and post-secondary institutions
  • Propose new ideas to streamline processes
  • Host virtual and in-person events to recruit youth to our program

  • Contribute to the development of programming team by sharing best practices and learnings, and participating in recruiting new hires

Partner Relations (20%)

  • Recruit high school aged youth to join and sign up for TasselTurn
  • Develop partnership growth strategy and pipeline development
  • Identify prospective private and public grant opportunities that can sustain or strategically grow TasselTurn’s work
