Job Description
Duties


The incumbent will serves as an analyst for the OS Communications office. This includes evaluating the effectiveness of internal communications strategies, materials, and support to the other offices/directorates which fall under OS.


Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited, To The Following


  • Maintain OS leaders' social media presence, and create, edit, facilitate approval and post social media messages;
  • Direct the review of all submissions for substance, conformance with instructions, completeness and authorizations.
  • Assist in the Planning, research, writing, and editing of internal and external publications to keep employees acquainted with current and future agency programs, using communications mediums (e.g., SharePoint, fact sheets, newsletters, posters, reports, press releases, surveys, social media websites, PowerPoint presentations, talking points).
  • Assist with the OS Employee Spotlight and OS Insider newsletter programs, i.e. craft, edit, design, and post original stories;
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate program management through briefings, presentations, and conferences for OS executive management;
  • Ensure accurate, appropriately concise and timely information is available to management, supervisors and workers alike;
  • Manage OS leaders and OS Communications organizational e-mail distribution boxes and create, edit, facilitate approval and post messages on behalf of OS leaders and management;

  • Must be a current permanent Federal employee
  • Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under "required documents" section.

  • Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*
  • Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation


Qualifications


Qualifications required:


  • Knowledge in all aspects of professional quality, original video and audio production is preferred but not required. The incumbent must be highly competent in the use of innovative and creative techniques resulting from broad experience in handling special and highly complex production projects.
  • Interpersonal and administrative skills to organize and coordinate thorough, systematic, professional communication efforts to meet complex planning needs and unanticipated requirements, and to provide written and oral reports with conclusions, alternatives and recommendations on national policies, projects, or studies for CBP and DHS.
  • Strong writing/editing skills is preferred but not required.
  • The ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships in both small teams and in a larger environment is first and foremost.

Additional Information


  • DHS does not offer any additional benefits beyond that which the Federal employee is already receiving.


If the position requires a security clearance, employees must have a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance to placement AND must maintain that level of clearance while performing in the position.


Selected applicants for a JDA are requested to fulfill the items below during the JDA:
  • Attend each of the DHS Joint Duty Program Director's quarterly webinars (1 hour per quarter).
  • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.
  • Complete 12 hours of professional development using Skillsoft courses, videos, and books in conjunction with the established assignment objectives for the JDA.
  • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.
  • Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.
  • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
  • Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:
