As a Senior Business Analyst (Product Owner), you’ll design processes and project implementations and diagnose process improvement opportunities as you develop innovative solutions that will affect millions. In this role you will represent the voice of the business by performing research, design, and development and translating complex business requirements into actionable features and changes/updates to the ATS (Appeals Tracking System). This is a cross-functional liaison role that reviews requirements and performance against expectations and coordinates/facilitates or influences changes to product to achieve optimal performance. You will work with internal and external business partners to recommend future direction, respond to inquiries, and ensure alignment to business goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Documents and translates business requirements into features and the development of user stories
  • Capture, analyze, organize, and prioritize business requirements for moderately complex projects
  • Actively participate in Agile team processes and help implement process changes related to Agile
  • Collaborates with System Analysts to identify solutions to meet business requirements
  • Provide explanations and information to Agile teams, stakeholders, managers
  • Provides direction to business analysts and IT resources within the Agile team to ensure highest value is delivered
  • Prepares and presents information to leadership for next steps and decision making
  • Lead, Build and maintain a backlog/inventory of system and business requirements to quickly react to additional enhancement capacity
  • Represents business interests and requirements on the scrum teams


While you’re busy helping us change the landscape of health care, you’ve got to be able to quickly adapt to change in a fluid environment. It's all about communication, quality reporting, analysis and audits and developing plans and programs to support continuous quality improvement. You’ll also be challenged to gain buy-in from multiple stakeholders before presenting solutions to senior leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in gathering and evaluating requirements, and writing and translating business requirements
  • Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Visio)
  • Demonstrated relevant experience as Business Analyst or Product Owner within medical claims or payment operations
  • Experience with implementing software or from ideation / requirements through to successful delivery


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience of managing business partners in a matrix organization
  • Experience working directly with senior level business stakeholders
  • Experience with Agile methodology
  • Lean process improvement or six sigma qualifications / experience

Soft Skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of how to execute on project deliverables in a fast-paced environment
  • An ability to communicate complex and technical issues to diverse audiences
  • Ability to develop solid networks and ensure collaboration and consensus building


California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $67,800 to $133,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
