Job Overview:
At MBFS, the Product Owner (PO) is a member of a technology development team that works based on agile principles to create digital technologies (i.e. products) serving our internal and external customers. As a PO, you are responsible for defining user stories that translate how product features are intended to function in terms that are clear to the development team and are tangible to users. Acting as a proxy for the end-user, the PO has a significant role in maximizing the value produced by the team by prioritizing the team’s backlog of work, ensuring that stories meet the needs of users, business processes, and customer journeys and determining if they comply with the agreed upon definition of done. This role has significant relationships and responsibilities outside the immediate team, including working with other product owners, product managers, customers, solution management, business owners, and other stakeholders.
There are three (3) openings available. One of the positions will include a short term international travel opportunity to and from our new operations hub in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The successful candidate will need a valid U.S. passport and have the ability to travel over the initial ~90 days of joining the team.
Responsibilities:
  • Creating stories: The PO is the primary responsible for story creation by selecting items from the backlog to deliver features as prioritized in the product roadmap. While anyone on the team can create a story (piece of work), this is done with agreement from the PO who will identify the corresponding backlog item and is ultimately responsible to ensure stories have the needed detail and elaboration so that the stories are well understood and they support delivery of product roadmap objectives. (20%)
  • Business implementation: Working with business operations leaders/supervisors, trainers, and marketing communication staff to assist with creating documentation, resources / artifacts, and communications to enable the product utilization by the customer/user. (15%)
  • Participating and planning team/program ceremonies: The PO participates in team and program level ceremonies to monitor the progress of work, raise issues, refine team and program level backlogs, and to contribute to the product and program vision. Additionally, the PO is expected to take an active role in building team comradery and culture of the team and the larger program that they belong to. (10%)
  • Story Acceptance: The PO has final responsibility to accept story completion determining if it satisfies the agreed upon definition of done with expected level of quality. Done successfully, the PO should lead the team to establish and document acceptance criteria, acceptance tests and execute them as required, and the document the definition of done for each story. (15%)
  • Driving innovation: Research industry best practices, conduct customer research, analyze operational data, and utilize techniques/tools such as Design Thinking, personas, empathy maps, customer journey maps, and storyboards to identify user/customer needs and develop related solutions that deliver the highest amount of value aligned to Mercedes-Benz priorities. (15%)
  • Enabler Prioritization: While the PO is not expected to drive technological decisions, they should should clearly understand the scope and purpose of enabler work and collaborate with technical architects to assist with decision-making and sequencing of the technology enablers that will host the new business functionality and its impact on backlog prioritization. (10%)
  • Backlog management: With feature prioritization provided by product management, the PO has content authority to build, edit, and prioritize the team’s work (pulled from the backlog) to maximize the value of the team’s output. The backlog content should contain sufficient stories and concepts that are clear, visible, and by working with technical architects, should strike a balance between value and technical viability, effort, and other team/contributor dependencies with a focus on maximizing flow and delivering working software. (15%)
Qualifications
Qualifications:

This position can be located in Fort Worth, TX or Farmington Hills, MI. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
This position requires a minimum of 5 years of overall work experience. Preferred experience includes:
  • Business (General) - 3 years of experience
  • Management - 1 year of experience
  • Administration - 1 year of experience
  • Information Technology - 2 years of experience
Education:
High School Diploma/(GED) is required, Bachelor's Degree is preferred. Recommended majors include:
  • Computer/Information Science
  • Information Technology

  • International Design/Technology
  • Economics
Additional Knowledge:
  • SAFe or other similar agile certification preferred
  • SalesForce Product Owner Certification preferred
  • 3 years of agile development experience required
